You're absolutely right, it's more than a "job" A "job" can get "old" and on any given day you might not feel like going to work, but I never found that to be true working on a farm. I was born in 1943 in Southwestern Ohio, USA. Started learning about farming when I was 9 years old and went to the neighbors dairy farm. I was like a sponge. I picked up everything I could understand and ask questions about what I didn't understand. I learned that animals are like people, in that they have personalities and and temperaments. Certain breeds of animals are more docile than others. I learned about running farm equipment. I never had it what opportunity to run a tractor that had a cab on it, or heating, or air conditioning. Drove very few that had live power takeoff. Some didn't even have power steering, but every day was fun. Didn't matter whether it was behind a baler stacking small squares on a wagon, or unloading small squares into a hey mouth right next to the tin roof. We got so hot you come out of their sweating like a politician on election day, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Back in the early eighties I helped a farmer who lives not too far from me when I lived in southeast Indiana, USA. I work 2nd shift in a factory in Ohio, about an hour's drive away.I would go to his place in the morning and work till noon, eat dinner with him and his family... and I enjoyed every minute of it. I wouldn't let him pay me first-year getting the crops in. He insisted,so I took his check and carried it around for 3 or 4 months... and then he asked me one day if I had cashed it and I told him no. He said I was messing up his bookkeeping, so I cashed the check and I spent the money on him and his family at the grocery store, cause they were trying to get by on $50 a week for four people. Groceries and paper products and everything else. I loved every minute of it. Some of the best days of my life where is spent farming. Those were Glory Days. The likes of which, I'll never see again. I'll be 81 next month and I can't begin to tell you how much I miss it. Thank you for posting this video.

Good Morning! I hope all is well. I truly enjoy your videos and encourage you to keep making and posting them. I know it takes a lot of time to do that and farmers have a very busy schedule. I was raised on a small farm milking 60 cows and your videos bring back a lot of memories. You are more mechanically advanced than I was ever used to (my father’s favorite saying was “a five gallon bucket never breaks down”). Even with the advancements you still farm with the personal touch and spirit of the family farm. Everything is so neat and clean around your property, I am sure that takes a huge amount of time and energy. Your animals are treated well and you take time with them! Keep the videos coming, I enjoy every one of them. Warm regards and safe wishes to you and your family through the upcoming winter season.

Good evening, Always a pleasure to see your videos. I am interested in knowing the history of your farm. For example, for buildings: - is the water reserve an old tower silage silo ? - what is the use of wooden constructions along your paths ? - how old are your buildings ? - what were the arrangements ? I think this could make a good winter video subject. Thank you for sharing with us the beauty of your landscapes and your profession. Good evening from France,
@farmerspov47093 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching them 🙂 -Yes, we used to ferment grass and corn in those tower silos, one is now rainwater storage and the other is a quarantine pen. -These were used back in the day for drying hay which was hung over the beams. -The wooden hayrack/shed was made in 1869 I think. Older part of the cow barn was made in the 70s and reconstructed to free stall barn in 2003, same year that we built the machinery shed. Greetings to France!

Another great video, and I am always very impressed by the way you and your family run your farm. Often I compare your channel with another one I subscribe to , Gierok Farms, in the state of Wisconsin,USA. They also operate a small dairy farm in hill country, and it is fascinating to see the operation of both channels, which are fairly similar. Have a happy Fall season.

I couldnt agree more and what a beautiful way of life it is. Id still be at my old job now if my original boss hadnt sold the farm. He sold it to someone who was just a horrible person and ruined the farm and was just impossible. I stuck it out for 10 years because of my love for the farm and respect to my previous boss but my mental health was terribe so i had to leave. Now im just on a 4 acre large garden with fruit and vegetable areas so just drive compact machinery now but really miss the way of farming life.

I hear you 🙄 what kind of farm was it and how big? Nice to hear you still have some land 🙂
@matthopper741111 күн бұрын
@farmerspov4709 it was only small about 140 acres, was mainly grass that used to be cut baled and sold and then in winter when it was quiet we went into the woodland and kept on top of keeping that tidy and clear.

Hi, thats right. At peak lactation up to 50 liters a day on our farm. I think they are more hardy but they produce less milk.
