It’s not about the weak side with Maxey it’s more to do with him not being comfortable pulling up while going left.

Pulling up while going left is literally Maxey’s bread and butter 3pt shot. The only reason his midrange is so bad on the left is because he doesn’t practice it since the only time he goes left is when he gets a screen. This is because he isn’t comfortable driving on the leftside.

McCain is short but he's not a pg in the sense of floor general. He's more of a combo guard like maxey

Because Dowtin is getting looks at running PG during the regular season, where he can guard the SG on the other end. Whereas NN will not be asking McCain to run point but he will be looking for him to hit spot up 3’s and come off of pin downs to pull up. I do think McCain is wired to be more of a PG than Maxey tho.
