The Kindle has to be the best ever piece of tech. Not in that it can do as much as other gadgets, but rather it fulfils its promise totally. I have the Oasis and I have no need to buy another e-reader for many years. And it’s so good at what it does.

Assuming, of course, that they quit giving necessary software updates, making the Oasis unusable. Most phones could last longer, but the phone manufacturers quit supporting them with software updates, eventually making them unable to run the current tech that apps are required to adhere to.

@leiselclayton57729 ай бұрын
The kindle scribe holds zero interest to me. It’s too big and clunky for what I want out of a kindle device, and its special features are something that my tablet already does better. What I liked about the Oasis was the physical buttons, because all of the kindles I’ve owned have given me grief with the page turning feature. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve clicked on the far right side of the page (nowhere near the center line where there could be any confusion) and had the book go backwards a page instead of forward… or clicked on the far left side only to have it go forward instead of back. Not to mention how often there is enough of a delay between tapping and response so that you think it didn’t register the tap, so you do it again, and then it goes forward multiple pages. However, I never bought an Oasis, because the jump in price was just way too big to justify for fixing that inconvenience… and I wasn’t sure I would like the altered body size that went with it (I never had a chance to physically hold and use an Oasis to compare the feel). If the price jump hadn’t been so dramatic, I most likely would have bought one.
@tomhernandez13082 ай бұрын
Totally agree on the buttons being far preferable! Also, 8 inches would be optimum for me, but the 6.8 inches of the latest paperwhite are definitely an improvement. I would pay double the paperwhite's price for 8 inches and page turn buttons, but also agree that the dramatic price jump for page turn buttons was just too steep. Why amazon seems to think buttons are a recurring failure is just bizarre to me - and works against its competitiveness with other e-readers. I can see they keep wanting to stick to the "elegance" (and decreased manufacturing costs, I'm sure!) of touch-screen only, but IMHO they just keep wanting to turn it into a tablet, whereas I'm always glad that it's not!

It arrives tomorrow and I'm sure that I'll be using it while delivering literally hundreds of books to the second hand book store this coming weekend.
