CLIP DESCRIPTION:
LV (Jane Horrocks) channels Judy Garland's Dorothy when she gets caught in an electrical fire. Billy (Ewan McGregor) comes to her rescue.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on Jim Cartright's play The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, this screen adaptation directed by Mark Herman is an underdog film about an underdog girl named Little Voice (or LV for short). LV (Jane Horrocks from Mike Leigh's Life is Sweet who does all her own singing) is a shy, mousy woman living with her mom Mari (Secrets and Lies' Brenda Blethyn). Little Voice doesn't leave her house. Instead she sings along to her record collection of Shirley Bassey, Judy Garland, and Marilyn Monroe. Her mother Mari, however, is an outspoken woman who is convinced her sex appeal (which is little) will land her a man, especially when she's drunk. One night while bar-hopping, Mari meets the suave yet sleazy talent agent Ray Say (Michael Caine), whom she takes home for a nightcap. There Ray hears the beautiful Little Voice singing a perfect rendition of Judy Garland's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz. He's stunned by its beauty and thinks he can make her a star. From there the story heads in complicated, romantic, and sweet-hearted directions that should not be given away. Also starring in this small independent film is Ewan McGregor.

I WORKED on this movie. I was lucky enough to be in charge of the spot lighting on all the stage shots. Michael Caine was so scared of doing this scene as he hates singing. You could see as he came onto set how unhappy he was. He did one take which is what you see as i don't think he wanted to repeat it again lol. I had some great memories i will keep for life working on this film. it was over 6 weeks filming in Scarborough and then 4 weeks at Twikenham film studios in London. Ask me anything you want.

Daina Goldenberg he was a pretty chilled out guy. Had some good conversation about trainspotting and everything surrounding the film and then asked him his next film and casually as you like he said he was playing OBI 1 . Like so cool the way he said it.

There comes a point in every man's life when he realises that his dreams aren't going to be fulfilled. This scene and rendition of 'It's Over' exemplifies that realisation. Caine's character might be horrid, but you can feel the pathos and humanity. Nothing stings sharper than the death of a dream.
