The sad and hard truth is, the good majority of us are struggling financially. Everywhere. I know for me personally, I've stopped buying plants because the budget isn't approved. I was also selling plants for a good year and a half and had to stop doing that first. My focus, like many, is elsewhere to help make life doable. I feel the heartache you feel Kaylee. I'm sure many of us do. This too shall pass, and other good things are coming! ❤

I'm so saddened to hear about The Rare Plant Shop closing. I have been a Plant Collector for decades, but not "Rare Plants" necessarily. Unless you count Terrestrial Bromeliad hybrids-- I started up with Aroids thanks in part to my Mother. I ended up with her Monstera Deliciosa & Her Epipremnum 'Jade' after she died And didn't buy any additional Aroids until March of 2024. Some of them after seeing you feature some of them on your Channel. I know you'll do great things to come. Your Plant Wall is frankly the best Looking one EVER!! I have some of your Merch, too. This was worded beautifully and exactly what I was thinking as I listened to both videos. It's so hard to think this when we "lose" something that means so much. This change and ending doesn't subtract from the massive success you had while it was with you. Endings are always difficult, but they bring us beginnings. The pain makes a callous on the wound that we can then propagate into something new and beautiful that stands and thrives all on it's own 😉. You got this!

Just because something can't last forever, doesn't mean it wasn't a great sucess at its time or it is less impressive in retrospect. Coming from a management consultant, I do not believe you have failed at all. You have been able to use the rare plant shop as a means to establish credibility and create a massive following in the plant community. You were smart enough to diversify into the fertiliser business and you are now capitalising on that goodwill. It is a textbook example of good entrepreneurship. The fertiliser business seems like is a much more scalable and manageable business model anyway. I for one will be a loyal customer. I just got my first pack a couple of weeks ago and since I am using it many of my plants have started growing new leaves in the middle of Dutch winter. I am very impressed.

I absolutely agree. You have not failed. It may *feel* like you failed because in this phase of your business life, you won’t have the gorgeous visuals of the plant wall. The fight is to have an internal feeling of growth that is independent of the external visuals outside of you. The fight is to *choose* to focus on that internal feeling of growth. Keep looking to the future and use the past to learn from. You are intelligent and insightful. I am still looking forward to when you finally ship your fertilizers and pon to the USA. You go girl!

So many times in life, we have to pivot. That is the purest definition of strength, bravery, and courage, and the finest definition of a great business leader. I was one of those that made a comment asking if the shop was still open. To be honest, as much as I liked the shop content, my question wasn't 100% about the shop. It was more so in concern for you and hoping that you were okay. Not that you asked, but I (and I think many others) are really enjoying the new content. I'm sitting here taking a couple of weeks off from my software development job, painting, and watched this video, and I really just smiled for this next chapter in your life. I appreciate your honesty, vulnerability, and sass. Thank you for sharing your journey and this new chapter in whatever way you choose to. It's you, not the plant shop that makes your content special. It may be hard to envision now. Transition always is. But I hope this new chapter is your best one yet! And in many ways, your journey; the triumphs, struggles, low points, and decisions to pivot represent so many of us in this world. oooh thats so sad! i really loved seeing you blog about the shop, everything looked so amazing. i kept wondering about it though, most plant shops focusing on rare plants closed over here too for similar reasons. lots of maintenance/costs and then also exotic plants going back to becoming more of a niche interest than it was back during quarantine times, which is a development that was out of everyones' control. it's such a shame to see your shop close too, but from what i saw with how much passion you handled this project, i bet your new endeavors will take off as well! i wish you the best of luck and all the best for the next year.

I can relate to what you’re feeling. I have a garden that is slowly losing money. But you know what, I’m still happy that plant crazed happened. Getting into plants, collecting and trading cuttings with other people.. it was so invigorating. I learned so much and all of the rabbit holes you sent me down kept me going another day. I felt the same excitement you did when you got a special, rare plant, and got to enjoy it secondhand during your videos. I hope you know that your content was such a lifeline to people like me. I am so sorry you have had to go through this. I think it’s truly scary times world wide. I want to add that I purchased your Nurture System Power Grow 1 a couple months ago here from a US distributor and dayyyyam, my anthurium’s are POPPING leaves left and right now. All of my plants love it, SERIOUSLY love it, especially my Alocasia’s, Monstera’s and Anthurium’s. I am about out but it will be back in stock about the time I need to order it. The cost of living crisis has hit a lot of us and meant that the landscape of what we need to do and can do has changed hugely. I know the closure would have been a massive thing but one thing sort of stood out to me - you said, "not everything you do in life is going to work well, not everything in life you're going to succeed at". And while I absolutely agree with what you said just after that about it not being about those things anyway and how what you do from there is most important I'd like to just reframe a bit. You know how you said you couldn't see the shop the way we did until you stepped outside it? I'd also like to suggest that while you're caught up in the process of this chapter of the shop ending, it is probably hard to see that something doesn't have to be permanent to have been something that worked well and was an amazing success. Appreciate what you achieved and soak it up. Grieve it too but don't negate what it was either. I totally understand (and do not in any way invalidate how much it would hurt) to have things ending sooner than you wanted and in a way you didn't want but the ending is only one part and doesn't define the whole.

Oh Kaylee, im so sorry to hear. I closed my own rare plant shop at the start of this year. Again, tried lots of different avenues to keep her running but it just wasnt feasible any longer. I would have loved to keep going with my passion, but burn out and also the state of the market, it would have run me further into the ground than i already was

Loved watching you run RPS but makes sense that it’s unsustainable. I got into plants in 2021 and it chaned SOOOO much since then. Finding you early on fave me the rare plant bug early on and honestly I found so much joy and happiness in them. It really helped me heal from my divorce so thanks for being and continuing to be an authentic voice on the internet plant world!
