This man makes some of the greatest documentaries in all of PBS. Pittsburgh i hope he makes them well into the future. He's a treasure.

I'm happy to report that the reason the documentaries are so wonderful is because they are a reflection of Rick's actual personality. This isn't him doing a bit, this is just him with cameras turned on. He's the best. ❤

God, you make me miss Pittsburgh. Lived there for over 40 yrs. And i miss it every day. And believe it or not i live in Maine.

I grew up in Western, PA - I moved to Atlanta in 1993. 28 years later I moved back home to my beloved Pittsburgh in 2021. I love the ATL however, no place like Pittsburgh. I'm loving being back home!

Atlanta is decent but Pittsburgh is actually more scenic and beautiful. There’s also a certain vibe that northern cities have in which it has a better hometown feel than in Southern cities. Probably because northern cities are more walkable and feel like real cities. And southern cities tend to feel like suburbs and more cookie cutter

I was so excited to see an old work comrade, Kevin Trumble. I am sad to see the bar venture did not last past 2015.. Hot Metal diner gone too. 😞 Doing features on restaurants and bars apparently later becomes subject matter for "Stuff thats Gone". another great piece!

Yeah, Wendy from Hot Metal passed away in 2014. All things must pass. Good memories, though.

Pittsburgh is great. I grew up in Philadelphia so to me Pittsburgh is like the brother on the other side of the state

Grew up in suburban Pittsburgh. Last visit 2005 for Mothers funeral. Have some old college chums and we get together every few years (Duquesne ‘76). This September will be in Lawrenceville which seems like a good choice. I will check this place out. 🎩

I just looked up the Eclipse and was sad to see it closed. I'm curious what happened to the beer shaped refrigerator? That's a shame it closed, it looked like a pretty chill spot to hang out and have a few drinks. Has anyone been there before?

Wow, Hot Metal diner also permanently closed :(

I was there once back in 2015-ish. The location turned into this weird roast beef sandwich place that lasted like a minute and then it became Cinderlands brewery which then turned into a Cinderlands brewery offshoot called Long Story Short. The brewery and its more recent revision were great additions. In fact, nearly the entire block between 37th and 38th streets is almost unrecognizable (in a good way) compared to the way it looks in the video.

It’s now a bar restaurant from Cinderlands Brewery called long story short. The beer refrigerator and glass block bar is gone, but the place is awesome. They did a really nice job remodeling but keeping a vintage feel.

Sadly 🥹🙏🏼BETTEN WENDY at Age 54, suddenly on Saturday, July 26, 2014. I have had breakfast there when she owned it. The food was excellent and homemade. 🍳
