It's Scoundrel! A solitaire dungeon crawling game.

I added back the ace of diamonds because a good fighter always carries an extra weapon (or ace) up his sleeve. I also added the queen of hearts as an angel who can save your life. And for an extra kick I added the two jokers. The jokers immediately eliminate the highest enemy from the room and if there aren’t any enemies, they eliminate the highest red card. Could probably just eliminate the highest card regardless of being an enemy. First time I did it the jokers got rid of a 10 of hearts and ace of diamonds. Makes you second guess holding cards in a room. These changes evened the difficulty a bit and added a little more complexity.

I like them. I now let them take out the highest card regardless of suit. Still a little more like to be an enemy but a nice bit of randomness. Jokers also means you can’t run from a room after a joker which is a nice challenge.

@@riffleshuffleandroll You don't kill the joker, the joker kills one of the cards in the dungeon-kind of like a weapon from your hand but it's played directly from the dungeon cards and can target enemies, weapons, or potions. I'm still playing with different variations but I think having the joker eliminate the highest card in the dungeon regardless of suit is the best option. They could take out a huge enemy but could just as easily remove a great weapon or potion. And when there's a joker I can't run away from the room since the joker kills the top card before any other actions can take place. Adds a nice bit of randomness and potentially a little strategy if you can keep track of whether a joker has been played.

Same. I introduced some house rules and evened it out a bit. I reintroduced the red picture cards and used them as Shields with the same values as the monster picture cards. I also used the jacks and made them unblockable with a Value of 10. Made it a little more interesting for me.

Wow, this is cool! As a person who is at entry level learning how to design games, this video really has motivated me to breakout my 52 deck cards and 20 die to play this game. Kinda reminds me of some of the card games I play on my Switch and iPhone/iPad the way the developers take game mechanics from cards similar to this game. This game looks great. Thanks for sharing it. I've always disliked traditional solitaire games because there was no strategy. This one involves some strategic thinking and management of cards. I'd love to see more games like this.

Couldn’t you have run from the last room with two aces? It may have been prolonging the inevitable, but you didn’t run from the previous room so I assume you had the escape option.

First time playing this game and my deck is almost empty, I have a ten diamonds and I been drawing 8 and 10 hearts but I been calculating points to see if I fight monsters head on and heal then fight them with my weapon to take small damage and so far it's been a blast killing everything. Honestly since it's a dungeon type game I left in my two jokers to play the role as poison dart to automatically kill any monster I want, just to make the game more interesting

I really like this game. I also play Clear the Castle/ Dungeon following your video on that (and will check out your V2 of the game next) I enjoy themed decks for certain games. This one would lend itself to an interesting Frankendeck using certain aspects to have the suits match their action (as close as possible at least)

Why not make the red faced cards fellow heroes you encounter in the dungeon. They could fight up to one monster in the room that is equal or lower value, they then get discarded. If there is a larger monster the monster kills them but the total of the monster gets subtracted by the difference. If there are no monsters they could join your party and help in a fight later on but once used they get discarded. If you want another hero you would have to discard the one you have. Idk if this would make the game to unbalanced but I feel like it could help you get out of unwinnable rooms so the game can go on longer.

I'm also having trouble understanding the ay weapons work. I get the replacement. I *think* how it works is, if the monster is a higher value than the weapon, it doesn't degrade, but equivalent and lower does degrade it? or does an overwhelming value decrease the weapon value by one?

If a monster is higher valued than current weapon value, you take the hit, and your weapon's value does not change. How you think it works is correct. = ^)

I've been playing this game and I really like it, but I'm unclear on the rules regarding using weapons. Say I have a 7 equipped and there is a 10 and a 2 in the room. I would like to still use the 7 and keep the 10 for the next room. Do I have to equip the 2 and discard the 7 or can I just discard the 2 and move to the next room?

Hi there, sorry, but I'm confused by your rules. At 4:30, you take the 10 of diamonds and kill a Jack, go into the next room, and kill all the enemies (8 , 5 and 4), and take no damage. But then, at, 5:30, you say you will take damage if you fight, but why? You still have the 10 of diamonds, right? Why can't you use it in this 3rd room? Also, what do you do if you have a weapon equipped and you are left with another diamond card. Let's say you hold a 10 of diamonds, and you end up in a room with 2 monsters and two diamond cards. You kill the two monsters, but you have two weapon cards left. You can leave on in the room, but you have a remaining diamond card. Do you just leave it in the room. Do you discard it? Or add it as additional power to your equipped weapon?

The strength of your weapon weakens with every enemy you fight, after you fight the first monster, forget the original value of the card. From then on the value of your weapon is the value of the monster

According to the rules, you must pick up one of the diamonds and replace your current weapon. In your example, the 10 of diamonds would be discarded with any monsters attached. The new diamond becomes your weapon. You are not allowed to discard from the room unfortunately.

If the room has nothing but hearts, discard all but one of them and fill the room back up. Essentially, you are saving a heart for future use. Hope that helps!

This is confusing. How long can you use your equipped weapon? Does it wear out? I mean, if not, you can just use 10 of diamonds for the whole run right? Which seems kinda cheap.

It does wear out by defeating/attacking enemies with it, it's why for example you can use say 7 of diamond weapon to attack 10 of clubs or 9 of clubs BUT from here on out you are only allowed to attack enemies with this weapons that are lower than the ones you defeated It's why the rules tells you not to discard them but to keep it face up on top of the weapon you own. It's how your weapon wears out (which eventually you will encounter enemies with a value of 5 but you have already defeated an enemy with 4, forcing you to fight it with your hands instead)

You must drink 3 of them. But your health can't go over 20. So any extra just quenches your thirst. OR, you can run, and all 4 hearts go to the bottom of the deck. (Unless you just ran. And running from this room means you can't run from the next room.)

Pretty sure I remember reading this rule on the boardgamegeek site as well. So if you have a room full of hearts, you will have to either run to save them or choose which one to drink for effect and which ones to drink to no effect and/or which one to leave in the room as you progress to the next room.

Sometimes you have to replace big weapons with smaller ones. You have to clear the room. You cannot simply discard cards from the room.

As soon as you pick up a weapon from the room, the weapon you had equipped is discarded. You cannot discard a weapon straight from the room.

@@valkyrja- The weapon never degrades. It's just that the monsters you fight with it always must go down by at least one. So if you have a 7 weapon, you can fight 10, 9, and 8 monsters (only in that order), and take 3, 2, and 1 damage. If you instead fight 10, 4, 3 monsters then you take 3, 0, 0 damage BUT now you can only use that weapon on a 2 monster. If you like, you can think of the diamonds as cowardly mercenaries, who lose their resolve with each fight, and thereafter refuse to fight unless the monster is easier than the one they just fought. Eventually they are useless, and you abandon them in the dungeon. 😀
