Hello and welcome to episode 2 of Brutal Review; a series I decided to begin and add to as I unbox lackluster anime figures. In this episode we unbox the way overpriced and totally not worth it Tanya Degurechaff figure from Youjo Senki (The Saga of Tanya the Evil) by FuRyu. I preordered this last year in fear that it’d go up aftermarket - guess we’ll have to see how bad I end up regretting this.

I think Tanya's anime look is just hard to replicate in regards to her face, but most companies have gotten it right, but them going for such an extreme expression just meant they were gonna have an even harder time doing it and they clearly couldn't pull it off.

I liked the chair a lot. I liked your pocket knife and army jacket. But yes, she looked horrible. The hair looked like it had a green tinge, although that could be my phone. And the rest of her just as bad. It looks like all the effort was put into the base instead of the figure. I've been painting some 1/25 figures this week and they look way better than her! I still haven't decided if oils or acrylics are better for them, so I'm doing 2 in each. I hate how long the oils take to dry, but they blend and shade better. Hopefully I'll be able to post that video on a week or so. What do you use?

Thanks, I've got a collection of knives and the jacket is a handmedown from my husbands grandfather (US Marines). I think you're right that the hair has a greenish tint to it. I'd love to try and fix her up, but the face might be a bit above my current skill level, might have to practice a bit first. Good idea to try out both oils and acrylics on a few to see which you like better. I personally use acrylic, but that's mainly because I use acrylic craft paint for other art as well. I just thin it using water (since it's water based anyways) that way I can mix my own colors :) I'll have to check out that video once you post it!

@@Konsuming_PlastiK Old military clothes are usually very comfortable, and a little something extra if you knew who had them before. I've put off lots of things in my life because I thought it was above my skill level. It turns into an excuse because you never get the skill without trying it! What's the worst that can happen? What I'm finding with the oils is that they are a little too thick for the scale I'm working on, unless I apply it like a series of washes. On the acrylics instead of using water to thin, try using either Vallejo or Createx reducers or flow improvers. They work way better than water, something about changing the surface tension and they lay down a lot smoother. It seems to make it more controllable too. Don't be a stubborn tightwad like me just to save $4! Lol. There was more I was gonna tell you about it but I got a phone call in the middle of writing this and forgot.

@@pappytinkers That’s true and a good point, still think I’ll practice on something a little less expensive first though lol. Haha you called me out perfectly - stubborn to save a few bucks is me to a T! (seems funny since I have this expensive hobby, but I’m only able to afford it since I’m so cheap with everything else). I’ll have to pick up some and try them out next time I’m painting.

Konosuba Figma also got hilariously inflated in pricing online. Buying the main cast is easily 800-900 dollars or more. (That’s for three Figma!!!) Also the face on that Tanya looks like you caught her stuffing her face with black licorice or something lol

Actually building on that I noticed the promotional art for the figure seems to have more accurate coloring/better paint overall. I mean yeah it’s the promo it needs to look good but you’d think that’d be the base standard at 300 bucks.

Oh wow, it's crazy how some figures just skyrocket! One day I'll finish Konosuba (want to watch all four of the anime in Isakai Quartet then watch it since I think I'd get more out of it that way). LOL she is making quite the strange face!

You're right! The colors for sure look better in the promotional image. I agree, for that price point you'd think making it look good would be the least they could do.

@@Konsuming_PlastiK I keep lying to myself and saying I don’t care for Isekai but Overlord (I think I’m 2 seasons in) has actually been really fun and obviously really enjoyed Tanya/Konosuba.

So, what's the plan? Do you resell stuff or just hang on to it? Or will you try repainting her when you feel confident enough to? The chair is nice!

I'm thinking I'll try to repaint her, but I'm going to practice on some other stuff first since there's a lot of work to do on her.

not every artwork works well translating into 3D figure tbh. This is probably one of it.

I'm sorry, I can't completely understand your comment, but I'll try. It looks like they sold it like this even though it didn't turn out very well which is worse since it was so expensive (I got it new). Let me know if that answers your question/comment and if not I can try again :)
