So true McMahon. If I’m not thinking about what watches to buy, I’m thinking about which watches I should sell. The hardest thing to do-is nothing-to neither buy or sell! Pascal may have been correct…”All of humanity’s problems stem from mans inability to sit quietly in a room.”
@webvideofanАй бұрын
I think this is why some collectors try to tie watch purchases with significant events or moments. It gives more of a reason to add another watch to a collection.

I haven’t changed, bought a Sinn 104 while on vacation in Italy for a very nice price, and I’m in love with my first German watch. Resisted buying a second piece so that’s a win lol.

A few ideas I wish to contribute: 1) I do not think the buzz that you felt when you won that dance competition was a sign of you being a fraud or a pretender at all. On the contrary, think of it this way: you won that competition, not as a boyfriend who could dance, but as a dance partner who trained to perform the funky robot. It’s all about how you frame things. 2) The emotional earthquake of acquiring a new item is something I am experiencing right now with fountain pens, and I believe much of it comes from a level or guilt or shame for not giving yourself the time to enjoy what you just purchased. You’ll know it’s time to turn off the stockpiling hamster brain when you pull out something, and say “hey, I like this more than that other thing I just bought”. All it took was a trip to Macy’s and realizing I liked my stuff more than what was for sale to end my fragrance addition. Trying stuff in person really can take the wind out of Acquisition Syndrome’s sails. 3) Limiting your social media consumption around forums or pages centered around buying new things is a healthy choice to make. I have little to no social media driving my acquisitions, so I have no one to show off to, other than my friend, who largely doesn’t share my pen obsession (he’s addicted to vintage motorcycles). Thus, we have a mutual understanding that we do not have to compete with one another over who has the new toy. He’s moved onto Tudors, Rolexes and CWCs, I’m happy with my Seikos and Casios. We came together over our love of hi-fi audio, transitioned over to watch obsessions, but stayed for the friendship and emotional ups and downs. So stick to your 6 watches, and enjoy them, McMahon. You’ll find out who your true buddies are when you are no longer buying new stuff to show off. You will find that once you devalue the “exhibition value” (as coined by Byung-chul Han) of your watch obsession, you will begin to feel a great level of liberation from the pressure to acquire more. I know this will be hard, because I can infer with your analogy of social media being like toothpaste that has left the tube, and being on social media since 2009, that you have a feeling of sunk cost, and thus limiting your social media consumption seems like a scary proposition. On the contrary, I believe it would really allow you to provide more emotional availability to your loved ones, as you liberate yourself from the succubus of watch obsession.

Jeff, you hit the nail on the head with the comparison between nicotine and watches. I have those same feelings. My last nicotine/watch craving was for an SBBN035. Like you I am older and the same thought you expressed I have felt. Not much time left to be switching watches and wearing what I love. Sorry for the length of this comment but man, you hit home with this video. Thanks and keep up the good work.

You definitely need to have atleast one SLA 62mas Seiko in your collection, I think you would absolutely love it and enjoy it a lot ! Since you already have blue themed divers with the SLA055 and SLA023 , you should go for the classic black/grey ones like SLA017 or the very elusive JDM 300 piece limited edition SBDX041 . As you said yourself, you’ve only got a certain amount of time left to live , don’t deny yourself the opportunity to enjoy the very best version of the Seiko 62mas design language being the SLA ones.

Just wear what you have and enjoy them for what they are, a watch. It tells the time, if it’s an expensive piece, it’s jewellery. We all need a reality check sometime. Sit still and appreciate how lucky you are, BP was right.

Hello my name is Matt and I'm a watch addict. It's been over a year since my last watch purchase. I am currently thinking about selling my SPB185 for a SPB317. Thanks for letting me share.

McMahon we're the same age and listening to your life stories and activities with football, powerlifting etc. we have nearly the same background, being the same generation we see the world very much alike. Well saying all that our biggest addiction is "Watches" for I too have been a collector for over forty years and I don't mean the least expensive brands but the luxury Swiss and German brands. I decided to take a good look at Grand Seiko and was completely astonished that this Japanese brand was so far superior to my AP, Patek, Rolex, Sinn etc. so I purchase the SLGA-001 over six months ago and it has been the only timepiece I've worn. I absolutely love it, it keeps perfect time and I get more compliments on it than any other watch I own even my Patek Nautilus which cost nearly twenty times more than my Grand Seiko. There will never be another purchase of the European brands for me, I've seen the light and that light is Grand Seiko. Thank you, for always presenting your great Seiko watches that led this watch addict to the finest and last brand I ever want to own!
@paulbugoni2846Ай бұрын
Same here sans the Grand Seiko part lol.

Year ago I made a commented about a citizen satellite watch I had to get, regardless of what I own and how addicted I am to buying wanting and selling watches it has never gone away this addiction… even having personal and financial issues it never stopped me from having a bad watch buying habit or like you said in video nicotine hit…. Hell I even tried to avoid watching your videos as the things you talk about hit hard…. I even try to watch other videos to get my mind stop thinking of watches even seeing my watch collection and the watch case gets more wrist time still doesn’t stop me from my nicotine fix 😢

New subscriber here, absolutely fucking great video... thank you. Been jonesing hard for a new watch but holding firm & resolute -- and then stumbled across this video like the universe was a KZbin algorithm piercing straight into my neurons. Still want the watch more than I ever wanted that next tobacco stick but I'll make it through tonight without it because of this video. 👊🏼👊🏼 For those about to purchase, we salute you. 🤌🏼

And, it's so hard for a watch addict to resist commenting on (usually negatively) a youtube watch review of a watch they have no interest at all. That is the real disease in this "hobby." Clearly they never heard of Marcus Aurelius.

Hi, I think it would be great if you started a podcast to support recovering watch collectors, where people could share their experiences and how they are dealing with the addiction. It would help you as well, since you would have unlimited content, and it would also help everyone who is struggling with this issue. Instead of focusing on what our next watch will be..
