He’s headed to the AAF he wanted out of the CFL, the CFL made a statement saying manziel refused to negotiate another alternative, he wanted out the CFL has many terms and one of them forbids CFL players from trying to look into other opportunities such as the NFL or AAF so if manziel wanted to play for the AAF he would need to violate the terms and conditions in order to get out of his contract, so to sum it all up just wait because manziel will wind up in the AAF or XFL sooner or later wish him nothing but the best

Per 3Down Nation, Manziel missed a number of required meetings with medical and mental health professionals. The read I'm getting is that the CFL did not want a repeat of what happened to Barret Robbins in Super Bowl XXXVII--one of the true black eyes in the history of the sport. The CFL apparently decided that it could not chance a situation where Manziel was not fit to take the field.

CFL fan and Canadian here. While it was surprising that he got released while at the same time he didn't. It wasn't anything criminal as per reports and even up here in Canada it's a mystery why the CFL released Johnny Manziel and say they won't honour a contract if anyone else attempt to sign him. Here's an article from Three Down Nation that says Johnny Manziel purposely looked for a way out. When the Hamilton Tiger-Cats originally put him on their negotiation list in 2017. Johnny Manziel didn't get approval from the CFL until he had meetings with the commissioner Randy Ambrosie and then wasn't allowed to sign until the 2018 season. After trying to get on with an NFL and didn't he signed with Hamilton. Then he got traded to Montreal after not getting playing time due to Jeremiah Masoli playing well and Montreal needing a quarterback to help their struggling team. Didn't pan out but was planned to be in camp this year. Story in a nutshell but here's the article. 3downnation.com/2019/02/28/johnny-manziel-skipped-meetings-required-by-the-cfl-sources/ Also league gave him certain conditions so he can remain "eligible" in the CFL and eventually broke one of those conditions that we're all unsure exactly what it is.

From what I understand this is what happened. When Manziel joined the league he wanted to play for a year then try to get back into the NFL. His CFL contract didn't allow for this option year so he (more like his agent) got creative and he purposely violated his other terms so he'd no longer be under contract and thus would be able to return to the NFL.

All he did was just break his contract. It wasn't anything related with his past transgressions. Then the title "Broken Man-ziel." Kind of a reach.

I have a suspicion this is on purpose so he can play in the US. Could be wrong. People said the same about the Browns when he went MIA. He was just drunk and gave up. I was a fan in college but I’m NO fan of him now. He’s supremely or was talented. He was not a 4a talent. Extremely fast shuttle at the combine, decent 40 time, unarguably supreme agility and above average arm strength. Johnny wanted to be a rock star more than a player...no more than even an employee! Still one of the greatest college QBs of all time.

Now the AAF suspends operations. Johnny Football is starting to run out of options. It was questionable whether he was going to be successful in CFL.

He’ll be alright. He’ll play for one of these other up & coming leagues.
