Academy, give Michelle Yeoh the Oscar already!
In Everything Everywhere All At Once, Michelle brings 40 years worth of talent and experience to the role of Evelyn Wang. If there was ever a time to award Michelle Yeoh the Best Actress Oscar - this would be it.

Cate is perhaps the front runner to win Best Lead Actress for Tar with her incredible performance playing Lydia Tar. However, Lydia Tar's character is confined to a certain degree. On the other hand, Michelle Yeoh's acting in EEAAO which is considered the best movie of 2022 and most probably the past two decades was phenomenal. Michelle's performance in playing different characters from the multiverse fueled with different emotions, laughter, sadness, compassion and not to mention the martial arts that go with it was just unmatched. You see Michelle do comedy, drama, action, thriller and even playing an inanimate object like a rock all at once is a tour de force and Oscar worthy performance! For these reasons in my opinion Michelle Yeoh should get the Oscar!

I have been mesmerized by the tour de force spellbinding and unique performance of MICHELLE YEOH in “Everything Everywhere All at Once”. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping the Academy members will recognise and reward her finally with the coveted best actress trophy. Yeoh has just received the "Dilys Powell Awards for excellence in film", the highest honour at the London Critics Circle Film Awards. She actually has more regional and international critics awards recognition than Cate Blanchett. Michelle Yeoh's turbulent brilliance in the movie EEAAO literally inhabited these multiple characters so thoroughly and visually showcased her unique ability to combine take-no-prisoners action, wry humour and deeper emotional resonance, spectacularly. I hope she wins on Oscar night. She deserves it! She has been waiting for more than 40 years for this recognition.

For me, the main reason Michelle should win the Oscar over Cate is that Cate's performance is nothing new. As Miranda Priestley said, "Floral for spring? Groundbreaking." Cate has done this kind of role before: Blue Jasmine, Notes from a Scandal. We need to acknowledge Michelle's groundbreaking work here (not just because she is the first Asian nominee for Best Actress). The role required a multitude of skills in order to do it justice. It would be so easy to unbalance the role of Evelyn and no one would believe the character anymore and think that it is similar to one tiktokker playing various roles in a short film/(for the older ones like Eddie Murphy playing many roles in The Nutty Professor). But in Michelle's hands, we do believe that this middle age laundromat owner did really enter into the bodies of various Evelyns and gathering skills from various universes.

It's not new???? Cate has done MANY genre... that's why it's hard to get newer roles. She went from Galadriel, Hela, Queen Elizabeth, etc she is one of the most versatile actress EVER. She had performed many language and even their native speakers claimed she did great despite many actors/actresses not performing it well. Not to mention, even if THIS is the only genre she did, still did one hell of a job....and the award is for acting, not Performing what you never performed before. Not to mention Michele Yeoh was groundbreaking only for her, the only genre she used to do was the martial artist trope, and then she got Crazy Rich Asians, and her performance was nothing remarkable, just a normal good acting. And Yes, her performance on EEAAO was great and deserve any awards she can get including the Oscars too.... Nobody would be surprised if she got it. What I'm trying to say is, All the nominees deserve it, but the fact that you're trying to discredit Cate just because she had done the genre before.....and ALSO the fact that you praise Michele for being "groundbreaking" alone is what I hate. That's exactly what Michele didn't want, she didn't want you to consider her new work groundbreaking....she can ALWAYS do that, she just didn't have any chance to prove herself..... It's as if y'all only think she's good as a kung-fu girl

@@clonnlijinhlong2713 You obviously don't know about Michelle's body of work, so don't dismiss it. Michelle DID NOT only do the "martial art trope"; before CRA, Michelle worked on all these dramas: -The Stunt Woman -The Soong Sisters -Memoir of a Geisha -Sunshine -Far North -The Lady, where she portrayed Aung San Suu Kyi + had to give a 2 minute speech in Burmese' which is completely different from her native Malay. You should know English + German are similar; both are Germanic languages.

Your view is _exactly_ the way I feel. I also think that the kinds of factors you mentioned actually count for _a lot_ with the members of the Academy who, after all, live in the real world. They very often look outside of the “four corners” of the film and award Oscars based on the entirety of an actor’s career, how “deserving” the actor is, and, yes, whether their competition has previously been gotten the award. (It doesn’t hurt that Yeoh seems to be universally admired, even loved, for her professionalism, hard work, and graciousness.) I think there’s an excellent chance that she’ll walk away with an Oscar this year.

Actually, Cate has 2 Oscars, supporting for her turn in the Aviator, and lead for her work in Blue Jasmine. Michelle Yeoh left acting in the 90s to be a wife, but chose to return when she knew she wouldn’t be able to give him children; left him and return to work. I’m not sure about the possessive husband thing, but she’s spoken about that in some interviews along the way. I’m wanting her to win because this would be historic and deeply impactful in a category that has been white for 94 out of the 95 years it’s been around. It’s sad that best actor has had a few or so that weren’t white who’ve won. Why is it so difficult to shine a light on great performances by non-white actresses. The Academy also has an issue with diversity too. Michelle Yeoh is the only woman of color in the category. The supporting categories have more diversity that the leads with Brian Tyree Henry and Ke Huy Quan in supporting actor and Angela Bassett and Stephanie Hsu in supporting actress. Not to mention how yet again there aren’t any women up for best director. They really need to dilute the older white members and even things out with more diverse members in the academy.

It's not a possessive husband thing, and Michelle wasn't forced to quit acting. In the 80s, it is the culture where once you get married, you are expected to be a wife and a mother, which Michelle would have been happy to be. From her interviews, I gathered that the reason is rather "A rich Asian man" thing which translates to the need for an heir for the business empire eventually which Michelle could not provide. But I love this video, nonetheless.

Just to clarify… I don’t know about the controlling ex husband, but I am pretty sure Michelle has said so many times that she quite her acting career because she so wanted to be a wife and a mother, and she knew very well from the beginning of her relationship with Dickson Poon, that his family was a Family that needed descendants so when she finds out she couldn't have children she decided to end the marriage. But I remember she has said that she is still friend with his mother and I think Michelle is godmother of Dee Poon (Dickson Poon oldest daughter). And… of course she deserves her Oscar this year!
