Hands down one of the best arguments I've ever heard on the subject. Just brilliant. I was a vegetarian for 42 years and have been a vegan for 2 because it just hit me one day "they aren't mine." Animals aren't mine to exploit in any way, period. They have their own interests and those interests should be respected. To the extent that anyone can live cruelty free, I do so.

What about plants?
@MarySanchez-qk3hp5 жыл бұрын
Andr Mand, in my humble opinion, plants aren't sentient beings. Their lives are more rudimentary. That's where I draw my line. But I will say that when I teach someone how to make yeast-raised or sourdough bread, I remind them that millions of creatures are going to die in the oven to feed and sustain their lives, and to feel gratitude for the food and all the labor, water and fuel that go into it. Even by eating a grain of rice, we're removing its future of passing its genes to offspring. But rice and starter cultures aren't sentient (although I nicknamed my starter culture "the world's slowest pet"). We're ALL lunch for something, I draw my line where veganism starts. If I don't sustain my life, I can't continue to be of service.

We think we live in an "advanced" civilization, but our modern culture is ridden with primitivism. Animals are sentient beings and they should be treated as such by intelligent beings with higher awareness, such as ourselves humans. Our modern culture has yet to evolve in order to reach an "advanced" status. Animal rights and humane standards in industry are a big goal on the road to cultural evolution.

Make no mistake we live in a very advanced time. However every generation has believed themselves to be the most tranquil, progressive, or advanced. What people need to realize is our civilization can always be improved, and we must continue to find ways to make life better for ourselves and for all of the inhabitants of this planet. As a generation we must create true legal protection for animals against suffering. Animals deserve a life consisting of healthy nutrition, space to move about, and a Quick painless death when it is their time to go. And after that let’s tackle climate change and deforestation and renewable energy and all that good stuff.

Katie Walden 13 minutes ago (edited) Thank you so much for your talk- perfectly eloquent and professional. I have to admit I find animal testing extremely distressing, I personally would rather not have medical intervention if it means that animal testing will continue to be utilised for research. This practice feels like it is just industrialised, and I feel upset that I was not asked if I want animal testing to continue - in fact, I don't think there has ever been a public vote? I believe we are capable of moving forward, and as a society taking responsibility for the other species of earth, rather than exploiting them.

Hardly anyone, comparatively, recognize and agree about "food" animals' suffering. The way they are treated, transported, and killed is worse than any horror movie anyone can ever manage to watch. And it's ironic that humans believe that it's "healthy" to eat that. This talk is needed. 24-7-365

The consciousness that sees through "my" eyes, is the same consciousness that sees thorough all other eyes. We are essentially the same, swimming in the soup of ALL. It's a beautiful soup. Capitalism has created separation and fear and destruction. Animals are not simply a commodity in the capitalist system. They are not an economic unit. They are living, breathing entities who experience fear and pain, just as we do. It is so easy to take them for granted, because they cannot express their suffering as we can. It used to be so easy to abuse children until people gained more sensitivity into what the "other" might be feeling .... And what they are feeling is what we are feeling. It's called empathy, and it is the most intelligent response. Lesli, there is an Irish expression that says, "May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields." In North American terms, this can be translate to mean .... "You go girl! Love you and love the work you are doing!"

Only the split second of being shot in the head, and even then it’s not a huge amount of pain

Wonderful to watch and listen to. In the universe of life there are no inequalities nor lesser beings. We have made laws that distinguish one life as treatably different from another - that is manmade and not in accord with the life universe or mother nature. We will continue to live in a criminal society until we recognize that all life forms deserve the same as humans in the Canadian justice system. We are a society that allows criminals to carry on indescribable cruelty to other life forms behind closed doors where no public can see how the animals are treated, the chemicals and indegestible foods that the animals are fed and the complete and utter lack of a quality life from birth to slaughter. We have become a criminally sick and lunatic society that turns away from the essence of survivalability.

What a wonderful presentation, not in method but message. A new fact came to me recently which I did not know, but if I had thought about made sense and that is the relationship between the animals we eat and the environment. We are aware that we pollute the environment more with the raising of animal protein than we do as humans. The question I ask environmentalists I meet is, are you a vegetarian? If the answer is no, that person has lost all credibility.

@carlosjuniorbarreto67335 жыл бұрын
