This is just the start, more and more manufacturers will start killing off their small cars as they don't generate enough profit. Then when the ICE ban takes place in 2030, you will only be able to buy a 2 tonne £40K+ electric SUV. Once again the common man will be unable to afford a car and the rich people will be the only people able to own a car.

Hi Darren, It is certainly true that the B-segment is a challenging segment to compete in where price is a significant factor for customers. In addition, new legislation around safety and CO2 compliance has also added significant cost and this is a challenge for all manufacturers in the segment. However, ultimately it is our decision to step up our commitment to electrification that is central to the decision to end Fiesta production by June of next year. ^Bailey

I worked at Ford of Europe in Warley on the development and manufacture of the Mark 3 in Dagenham and Valencia. It was Britain's best selling car back then and Ford was the second largest car producer in the world. We did a lot of stuff right. We were always ahead of the curve, producing what customers didn't realize they needed until they had it. I was actually very tearful watching this as Ford is a very different proposition today and staring at a very uncertain future. The Chinese or Korean behemoths are aeons ahead in terms of electrical/electronic tech. and will probably acquire the Ford brand in the not too distant future. I'll always treasure the time I spent at Ford - among the greatest years of my life - and so proud of what we did.

Small cars like the fiesta can easily produced as electric ...they are city cars so a range of 200 miles would be ideal .. Recent survey shows that the average electric car journeys are no longer than 40 minutes around town .. so the average small car buyer doesn't want a 40,000 pounds suv.

It's the end of a era when people on modest incomes could afford a new car, it almost seems a plan to price a whole bunch of people off the road, I guess we will have to look to asia, and hope they can produce a small fun cheap electric car with amazing range in the future.

This is a sad day. The Fiesta meant a lot to many, and myself. Been in three over the course of my life, as a passenger of course. And I loved them all. Shame there won't be an electrified version of the Fiesta, as many would have bought it just as much as the Fiesta is selling now. It's been a great little car. And we are going to miss it dearly.

There won't be an electric Fiesta because: 1) Middle-class consumers have lost their minds and are moving to crossovers and SUVs 2) Poorer people are getting priced out of the car market and therefore cannot afford any sort of new car 3) Small electric cars have terrible range because there's less space to stuff batteries into.

Absolutely bonkers decision @FordUK. We don’t all want wasteful and underperforming SUVs. Ford has lost its way, the current Fiesta was the worst designed Fiesta of all of them, but it should have been replaced with a better designed electric Fiesta. Looks like Vauxhall Corsa is going to continue to be the best selling small hatchback for now what with a lack of competition from Ford. I was Ford for life, or so I thought. When my current Focus is done, so am I. The new Astra looks so much more enticing, especially when it comes in BEV form next year!

This is truly sad but this is just one of the many strings that hint the dire future of electrified cars. Cars that make no noise. Cars that bring no joy. Therefore, as we transition to an electric future, we have decided to discontinue producing the Fiesta at the end of June 2023 so we can commit to the first of these electric vehicles which will arrive before the end of 2023. In addition, Europeans are showing a growing preference for SUVs and crossovers. The segment share (as share of all passenger cars) of small cars shrunk in the last three years from 21% (in Q1 2019) to 18% (in Q3 2022). In the same timeframe the share of small SUVs like Puma grew from 14% to 17%. With Puma we have a competitive product in this segment, which will also be available as a BEV from 2024 onwards. ^ David

I went on holiday to Cornwall from Scotland with my mums Cornish school photographer friend she was getting her first company car we got the train from Penzance to Plymouth we went to Vospers and got a S reg red fiesta then we drove back to Cornwall then returned to Scotland at the end of the holiday that’s my fiesta story my mother had two XR2 fiestas a MK1 and aMK2 I think this is a wrong decision 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Sad, but typically modern Ford. Never make a Focus RS again, axe the Fiesta, current Fiesta ST has an overstrained, over thought, 3 cylinder, drops to 2 cylinders round town, 1.5, 200bhp engine. While the VW Polo GTI has a comfortable 4 cylinder 2.0 Turbo, you've got Golf GTI, a Golf Type R, Audi, Mercedes, BMW all doing fire breathing rip snorting versions of their models. While Ford seemingly retreats from the market place.......

Always had a love of small hatchbacks and the fiesta always struck a balance of affordability and drivability. I have endured the ridicule of the "fix or repair daily" brigade, taking it in my stride, for you see, I know the joy of driving a ford. Whether a fiesta or a focus, they are true drivers cars. You thrash them, have fun with them. Feel like your 18 again and feel that involuntary smile sweep across your face, knowing that all the while, what ever you break in your nostalgic moment of unmitigated joy, the repair bill won't require a remortgage, or result in divorce. My wife and I both have fiestas and will keep them alive for as long as possible but if Ford and the other traditional car manufacturers don't make an exciting hatchback at an affordable price for the working class of Europe and Britain, I can see established Asian companies filling the void and potentially winning market share, since these old hands are choosing to focus on the larger, more profitable vehicles attainable only to the middle classes, or leaving the more ambitious indebted and overextended, while overlooking the biggest market of all, the working class 🤷‍♂️... also 😢

I drove a succession of Fiestas for 19 years. Started with a basic L model, petrol & diesel, the last two being the Zetec S model. Utterly reliable. Like many others, I just cannot see the logic of dropping such an iconic car. I do wonder if this is driven by the US rather than UK needs. I'm now driving a 2009 model 1.6 diesel Focus, which I have had from new. Another brilliant car - reliable, economical, handles well. Just completed a tour of the entire Scottish coast plus the Outer Hebrides, and it now has 185,000 miles on the clock and still has the original clutch. The original alternator was only changed about 3 months ago.

Myself and my family had Fiesta's all their life, such an amazing little car. There's one parked on my driveway right now, it's the car I grew up in, and the car I'll always love most. I first saw three pre launch Fiesta’s parked near Bath one Sunday in 1976 and we’ve had a fair few since as a family. Since 2014 I’ve had three Fiesta ST3’s and after somewhere close to driving 250,000 trouble free miles in the three the latest Mk 8 still brings a smile to face every time I drive it. An utterly brilliant car which, for the price, no other car I’ve driven comes close to. A very special car and every time I drive past the late Richard Parry’s house in North Wales I say a quiet “thank you”.

My experiences of the fiesta don't go far,I learned to drive and passed my test in a mk7 2011 model one and I brought a 2008 mk6 last year for a stopgap runabout and for a little 1.4 petrol car it's got plenty of power and it's reliable,overall thank you fiesta for giving me my licence and being there to help out when needing a leg up,rest up and take it easy

Very rarely has a car had so much character across mks. Apart from the ecoboost later on, the engines have maximum efficiency for the size. I have a little 1.25 zetec as my first car, I've had it for less than a year, and it very quickly made a staggering impression on me and the car i learnt to drive in was a more powerful 1.4l edge. Fiestas have truly always just gone. Wherever. It really is an old friend; you can rely on them to be there when they're needed. I'm gutted i haven't yet had the fortune to drive the older mks because i bet they'd be even better. But i can't wait. I know they're out there somewhere, waiting to skim along winding roads into the wilderness. As it is, mine has been used on roads most would have compared to dried river beds. And so far, my only issue has been a slight coolant leak owing to a rusty clamp corroding the hose! They've been there for the elderly, for the lonely single petrolhead and for young petrolheads like myself who wanted something that could withstand hooning and just about anything you threw at it. Incredible car and I know I'll be in my middle ages before it becomes little more than a ghost. On behalf of the UK, thank you lil fez for every smile and comforting moment you've provided and for ferrying people in your unstoppable way. Rev on little fez 🇬🇧

What a car! From XR series to STs. I had the 2011 Zetec S. Such a shame to see it go. Fingers crossed, @Ford have done their homework and fill the gap. Massive shoes to fill!

I've had 8 fiestas in total. Learnt to drive in a Mk3, then had mk4, mk5, mk6, and mk7 loved each and every one of them. Sad to think they're not making them anymore. Great little car. Taught my partner to drive in a mk6 and he loves it too. My dad used to own the XR2 model as well that was a right little whippet!

I've had 4 different fiestas, from track cars to daily drivers and besides the 1.0 EcoBoost (the less we talk about that the better 😂) they've never let me down, took a beating daily and always been around for more. I've now got a mk1 Focus as a daily driver and it's a brilliant car. But it's a sad day losing the Fiesta. Over all it's generations theres never been a bad one and you cant say that about alot of other manufacturers. Farewell Fiesta

I will miss this perky little machine i think everyone in my family has had one all the way from mk1 to recent including some limited editions like the fiesta festival. I will really miss this wonderful little car it has served us well 💙

My first car was a Mk1 Fiesta, and I've only bought Fiestas ever since. I now own a 2019 Fiesta Active. Sad to think it's the last Fiesta I will own, but looking forward to seeing a new electric car to replace it. Hope it's just as much fun to drive.

@@pliosaw eh no. Roads and car parks were designed years ago for cars such as fiestas etc, with the rise of 4x4s and SUVs it's causing issues. Where I used to live you could get a row of cars outside everyone's house and there was room to get by now the road is semi permanently blocked because of these bigger cars. And of course roadworks cause problems but that has always been the case the desire for bigger cars particularly in the UK is a fairly modern problem

No it's not. SUV styling, taller center of gravity, worse ride and handling (good for an suv but that's not saying much), costs more to purchase, costs more to run.
