I'm glad you're happy with it and it fits your needs. I just can't get over how all of the FCA/Stellantis vehicles, save the Pacifica, are at least 10 years old without any real redesign. The Durango managed a "marginal" rating on the IIHS small overlap test in 2015, and six years later, they haven't done anything to make it safer or have it retested. Hell, the 300 on sale today is the same basic car that I got as a rental for a job interview in 2006, 15 years ago, just with much better plastics and infotainment on the interior.
@Ryan20223 жыл бұрын
Your post is fine in my opinion but come on with the small overlap test nonsense. The safety institute must be getting bored that type of crash almost never happens in real life and you know it. I am always concerned with the safety ratings on any vehicle I have ever bought and the small overlap test means nothing to me it’s unneeded and useless in my opinion. It’s just another case of a department trying to over justify its existence they should delete that ridiculous test.

Isn’t it funny how different we all are? I MUCH prefer the front grille on your new ride. Keep up the excellent work. A.O.A……the dean of car reviewers👍🏻
@cytrynowy_melon66043 жыл бұрын
I mean, the new grille looks more modern and agressive, but the old one is somehow more consistent with look of a proper, big american SUV. The new grille is smaller, and because of that middle part of new front bumper looks kinda empty and inflated. The old grille and bumper have proper boxiness, which was always an important part of characteristic look of bigger american SUVs. The older Durango generally has more RAM-like design. Even if aged a bit, RAM style still corresponds better with the large vehicles, because this style was created exclusively for large vehicles like pickups, and their proportions. New Durango tries to look more like a Dodge muscle car - it is more sporty at first sight. But muscle cars have different size and proportions, so moving the style and design cues created for muscle cars onto the big SUV means not everything works as good visually as it worked on muscle car. That's why new Durango looks kinda like an over-inflated Dodge Charger. The longer you look at basic proportions, relation of details to general shape, the better you see that older Durango has more integrity to it (most visible looking at 5:17)

I recently bought a charger scatpack widebody and get where you're coming from. For me, it was the only 'sports sedan' that has a backseat that fits 3 childseats. The price was borderline to what I told myself I should be spending on a new car and other options cost a good 20-40K+ more. The upgraded harman kardon sound system is one of the best available period (same or better in your durango). I like the old school less techy simple/retro design and feel of the car...so refreshing after looking at so many 'modern' cars. If you're a 'car guy' and want a large sedan, I just can't see why you wouldn't get a charger as there's nothing else appealing out there. The naturally aspirated 6.7 V8 and ZF 8 speed transmission is so smooth, responsive, torque monster at lower RPMs, sounds awesome, and is fast.....so much nicer than driving a laggy turbo 10 speed FWD car. Handles great through corners (though I really want to put some summer tires on it). Quiet, comfortable, and extremely stable cruising down highway...huge trunk and backseat for road trips with kids. The only downside I found so far is build quality in some spots is lacking, but that also adds charm to the car as you're not super worried about imperfections. Its an old design and reliability ratings are high despite a poor brand perception. Dodge actually got top ratings at JF power ahead of all other brands recently. I got a feeling these types of cars will hold their value and be more timeless than the latest 'iphone' audi/bmw/merc/porsche etc.

I considered myself pretty plugged in - I had no clue that FCA/Stellantis updated the dash on the new Durangos. With as little press as the Durango gets, it's like FCA/Stellantis is trying to kill off the model, particularly with giving Jeep the long-wheelbase 3-row Grand Cherokee L for 2022. At some point Stellantis will find a new purpose for the Jefferson North plant, and I would not count on the Durango receiving a redesign. I frankly wasn't considering a Jeep purchase until I had a loaner Pacifica for a month. I was solidly impressed with how well it executed its mission, and that positive impression continued when I test-drove a 2018 Grand Cherokee. I sacrifice the extra row and extra towing capability for more cargo space behind the 2nd row, a low range transfer case, and actual off-road chops. But most of what makes my Grand Cherokee so good is present and accounted for in this Durango. My expectation is that, after so many years in production, FCA/Stellantis have the bugs worked out, an expectation supported by decent reliability data for the newer model years in Consumer Reports.

Us ordinary people don't get in and out of the dealer in less then an hour. I was at the dealer on Saturday morning. My deal was already done, just coming in to sign paperwork. I was the first person for the finance person to see and I already had a pre-approved loan using one of their vendors. It still took me nearly an hour and 45 minutes which I thought was actually quite amazing. This was my third trip to the dealer to finish the deal. Went in for about 45 minutes to test drive and talk to the salesman on day one, went back the next day and spent another hour while they evaluated my trade and I had to walk because we were about $1,000 apart on an agreement. Traded a couple phone calls during the week then they agreed to a deal and I went back in on Saturday morning to finish it up. Nice Durango Alex.

Durangos are infamous for differential whining noises and mystery front end clunking noises. @Mytagforhalo3 жыл бұрын
@@meeralrafee1875 I guess I dont understand. Seeing as FCA are using the same powertrain components in a large portion of their lineup, I don't see what the big deal would be about the "new ones". Are you worried about the frame falling apart or something faster than the others? The ZF 8 speed is used in a large number of vehicles from different manufacturers and the FCA powerplants are generally well regarded. Not to mention that FCA has really cut the fat on the linup and removed what I would call their less favorable products from the market. Any real complaint beyond that is generally from an increase in design complexity for more power and better fuel economy. It's not like the increase in complexity is an FCA expulsive thing either. Just like how I purchased a 2005 avalanche instead of a 2006+ model to avoid getting into the 1st gen VVT problems. Most other auto manufacturers have gone though similar phases on the larger blocks. Asian auto manufacturers have gotten away with using naturally aspirated 4 cylinders for years, because that's their thing, and they're fine as is. So while american manufacturers flopped around that time, toyota and honda only gained recognition for their "if it aint broken, dont fix it" strategy. GM's 5.7L from the 90' to early 2000's is regarded as extremely reliable as an example. The vehicles built after 2006 with VVT, much less so. You've got to stay up to date on all of your maintenance and a modern vehicle will do well. They dont however tolerate abuse and neglect. There's only so much efficiency you can squeeze out of a gasoline engine. You either keep piling on complexity to conform with regulations or go electric.

@@cytrynowy_melon6604 Only to a degree. When you get to large, RWD-based SUVs and CUVs you’re really dealing with similar suspensions, no matter what the overall frame/box design is. They all use beefy axles and heavy steel components at that point. It really does come out to the engine/transmission capabilities. The Durango is a prime example of that, but the Explorer is another.

Awesome upgrade and choice! Love the reactor blue with the red interior. I would have went with the black out package but I understand why you didn't.
@myoutuber772 жыл бұрын
I bought a new 21 durango and wanted the blacktop package. I could not get it because it is not offered when you opt for the beige interior (it has to do with assembly line build sequence). In retrospect, I'm glad I couldn't get black wheels from the factory - I got them painted black beautifully at an independent shop weeks after taking delivery at half the price of the blacktop package. Admittedly, the OEM blacktop does have a couple other black exterior accents (for example the DURANGO plastic name on the back gate would have been black rather than silver) but the wheels account for 99% of the look. Very happy as is!

The Durango is a fantastic SUV. If I bought an SUV instead of a half ton it would be a Durango. I agree as I prefer the grill on the older model, the new one is a little boy racer looking in my opinion but it's not ugly.

Yes HVAC are buttons! Putting HVAC in touch screen menu is crap because if the screen lock up you SOL like the Pacifica.

Hey Alex - my wife had three Durango’s, 2011 & 2015 Citadel hemi’s and a 2018 SRT. SRT is a different animal.....great vehicles. BUT, better set some $$$ aside for brakes & tires. SRT burns through rotors & pads faster than any vehicle I’ve dealt with......and the parts are crazy expensive.
@mattie35953 жыл бұрын
In fact, ask your dealer parts guy what a set of Brembo rotors & pads cost - you’ll ship your pants....! Prob need them at 20K miles - especially if towing.
@johnq62573 жыл бұрын
Bro this isn't an issue with the Mopar extended warranty. Next, if you are out of Warranty then buy quality 3rd party rotors and brakes. The most popular in terms of price to value ratio are the Z26 carbon ceramic pads which are part of the "Power Stop K5958-26 Z26 Street Warrior Brake Kit" that is used for all Dodge SRT vechiles. Many of the Hellcat and Trackhawk guys are using these and they won't break the bank.

Love this Alex. I love my American n/a V8’s. Enjoying a Yukon XL right now. Thinking about a Escalade ESV next. 7000lbs is all the capability I am looking for.

I do like the front design of the older Durango but the headlamps of the new one is nicer. Why didn’t you go for the grand Cherokee I’m just curious.
@kobecoristine39173 жыл бұрын
The Jeep Grand Cherokee doesn’t have a third row, and the tow rating is over 1000Lbs less with the same V8 engines! :)

A friend bought his leased car and sold it to Carvana and made 4K on a Hyundai Elantra Sport! Will definitely look into that when my lease is up on my 2020 BMW M340 which is way under mileage.
@Gladiator19723 жыл бұрын
I leased a DD SRT with the lease ending in August and was going to do the same thing as the residual cost is about $15K less than the trade in price right now. I just can't find another SRT in stock near me.

Congrats Alex 🎈🎉🎊🍾 for your New Durango, The color and the looks is modern. As you said Jeep wagoneer will tow 10000 pounds but will not be nimble as Durango, Enjoy with your new vehicle.

Durango's 36 ft turning circle is pretty damn nimble! You're talking 40 ft and over for even a small pickup.

Would love for you to compare the MB GLE 350 AWD with the Durango 5.7 Hemi AWD. Similar tow ratings, but much better mileage and luxury (and price) with the former.

He touched that topic... I personally had 11 years 3th gen Ram, now 2013 model, both having Chrysler transmissions, both had been very good to me... both had much better lasting interior quality then my previous Tacoma. I'm maybe lucky, but i don't care, so far i have no reasons to move on to other brand, but i drive for work F150 and yea i wish few things Ram would have done better as Ford does

I truly do not understand why Ram has never brought the 6.4L to the 1500. It seems like it would be a nice sweet spot between the 5.7L and the 6.2L SC. But just seems like it'll never happen.

This platform was designed by Daimler back in the day. I know that when Daimler sold the company and FCA was created, FCA had to continue to pay Daimler a royalty to continue to have the rights to use the platform. All these years later, can anyone confirm that Stellantis continues to pay Daimler a royalty for the use of this platform?
@theyadmire5113 жыл бұрын
If the car industry’s royalties are the same as the music industry’s royalties, then they are paid out as long as whatever it is continues to sell.

I’m shocked, shocked at your "good" experience at Normandin. They treated me like a total fool and played games with me when I came in to buy a Challenger. I walked out in anger. I wouldn’t recommend that dealer to anyone. I would love for you to makes video-maybe I did something wrong and I can learn from you.
