Howdy! We are gearing up for the 2018 hay season. The day is finally here; we are ready to sprig a 30 acre field with East Texas Coastal Bermudagrass.

One of the reasons I watch some of ur videos is because they are no nonsense work related . I hate the ones that are more for making cash or with people that think they know everything and are doing you a favor by broadcasting the most useless info.. great job

Hope you guys enjoyed the "slower" months! Was a busy summer for us in Aus (it's still danged hot, 95 degrees today and over 100 on the weekend)! We managed a 6th cut of Alfalfa off this summer and might even sneak a 7th cut into silage, water allocations were good thankfully.

just a word of advice do not ground thru bearings like you were doing it trying to find a good ground will cause it to arc thru the bearing causing it to seize

You may have arced the bearings on your roller by hooking the ground clamp to the frame instead of the axle shaft. Keep them greased but don't be too surprised if one gives out. Good to see you back though.

I'm in the process of making a roller out of a 30" pipe. Any tips? One thing I'm scratching my head on is how to ensure that the shaft is centered on the roller. How did you jig that up?

I dont suppose it mattered much being that it's just a roller and all but you welded through the bearings.... something to think about. Do that on the wrong situation and you can take a 10 minute job into a trip to town for parts. Love your video's!

I will do it differently next time, I had no clue

If I may make a suggestion. The way you had your ground attached while welding, the current is going through the bearings. I have seen bearings destroyed doing it this way. Just my thoughts, not really trying to tell you how to do your job. Thanks for the video

I know that I don't know everything, I appreciate the tip. I won't do that again

I love your hay videos. I also live in the N. Texas area. As a newbie to making hay can you do a video sometime on why you have decided to sprig? I have a place we just bought with a 15 acre field that I don't know any history on. I want to make square bales to make them easier to handle and to sell to horse people. I did a soil sample and put the fertilizer on with weed killer. Still seems like there are weeds. While digging the soil sample I noticed how thick the rhizomes where on the costal. Is there a life span that determines when to start over and sprig, or can I take a chisel plow and refresh the field?
@NorthTexasHay6 жыл бұрын
You can plow the field but you will lose a cutting maybe two. I wanted pure coastal and it only comes in sprig. What was your ph?
@jtyreetex6 жыл бұрын
Not sure? I can look at the soil analyst. Sandy soil with a creek running thru.
@jtyreetex6 жыл бұрын
Is this something I should do this fall after the last cutting? Continuous improvement.
@NorthTexasHay6 жыл бұрын
Ph is the most important thing you can do, especially for sand
@NorthTexasHay6 жыл бұрын
Think about aeration also, especially if it hasn't been done in a while
@MrRanger5186 жыл бұрын
What type and rate of fertilizer do you usually spread?
@NorthTexasHay6 жыл бұрын
That changes constantly. I let the fertilizer company tell me what to spread and how much they think I should spread, and I make adjustments from there

It’s really great to see yours video pop up. Your field looks good and ready to go. Can’t wait to see the progress after the field is planted. For those flats have you ever tried tireject, I saw it first on one lonely Farmer and then I bought some. This stuff really works on flat tires of any kind, it’s amazing. Here’s the link if your interested, www.tireject.com/.

The tires are dry rotted, I don't believe they are salvageable
