Apple has consistently ranked as one of the most admired companies in the US, and their loyal user base has grown rapidly over the last thirty-five years. But Apple is also one of the most hated companies in the tech industry. And these negative feelings toward Apple has also become directed at their users. No matter where you look online, it’s become common find someone criticizing others for saying they use an iPhone or Mac. And in this video I want to confront this behavior and make the case that no tech fan is better or worse than another simply because of their platform preference.

I used to be a hard core Android fanboy that hated Apple with a passion. But honestly, I realized that passion came from wanting to feel superior to Apple users. I started using Apple products more and I have to say, Apple products are great. They are so user friendly. I still prefer Android over an iPhone because I am a power user and Android is mainly targeted at power users. In conclusion, both platforms have their pros and cons and both are targeted at different people groups with different needs. Some people just want a phone that works. That's what iPhone is for. Some people want to be able to customize their user interface. That's what Android is for

If you know anything about Apple the company, you wouldn't be supporting them, using their devices, anything. They are just so awful. -Workers building Iphones were so overworked and stressed to meet demands they tried to delete themselves. Apple's response? Put up nets outside of the factories. -Steve Jobs was an awful human being. He denied his daughter Lisa was his for years, treated his coworkers terribly, stole from Wozniak, pitted his employees against each other and to hate each other. And this is who they say is the *best CEO* of Apple. -They purposefully slow down and brick older devices or devices that weren't repaired by Apple via system updates in order to punish anyone who hasn't paid tribute to them lately or got a replacement home button from somewhere else. (Numerous lawsuits, Error 53) -They lie about repair issues in order to sell you a new device (Rossman bent back a backlight pin for free; Apple Store wanted to charge $1400 to repair the same Macbook for "water damage"). (CBC News: Apple under fire for allegations of controversial business practices) -They make their devices incompatible on purpose to coerce customers into buying everything Apple. *This is just plain wrong.* By ignoring standards and going with proprietary cables and connectors (which change often), they are contributing massively to e-waste. -They made Apple Music that will "match" your songs, delete your free copies from your computer, and force you to play them via the cloud. If you download the songs, they will be Apple Music's version: possibly an incorrect match and definitely an M4P, a file you can't play without an authorized Apple product. People lost gigs of original and rare songs with no recourse (James Pinkstone). -They claim any repair shop is just substandard, lying, etc. and have even stolen replacement parts from people like Rossman. -They threaten lawsuits to anyone posting repair manuals online. -Privacy violations. They collect your data, but they use it themselves to target ads. Apple's business practices have emboldened other companies like Google, Samsung, Microsoft, etc. to engage in more anti-consumer practices like overpricing, feature removal (headphone jacks), etc. Apple is ruining the tech space and Apple users are the ones funding these criminals empowering them to do more and more things against the general public. You're not really inferior. You're just making things worse for the entire planet. Stop supporting such an awful company.

Perhaps it's because few can afford to have a foot in both sides. I was an Android user/fan for many years, but always had my frustrations with android and some envy of iOS features. Now that I've switched over, it's the other way around (though with fewer frustrations). I'd love to own both a flagship Android and iPhone, but I can only afford one, so I end up focusing on the shortcomings of the one I didn't take to validate the one I did buy. Android: fancy cutting edge niche new features, good specs, reasonable price. iOS: long term support, reliability, good integration with other Apple devices.

Well put. I have both. Galaxy S9 and iPhone 8. There are definitely pros and cons to both but I use my iOS devices more because I use my iPad a ton and iPhones just work with it. As an apple fan and user i still think that there are a few points to actually hate about Apple. That would be how they treat their customers and how they handle mistakes they made. For example the keyboard of the Macbook Pro: depending of the source it is said that 20-30% of all 2016 and 2017 Macbooks Pro suffer from malfunctioning keyboards and everything Apple says is „a small number“ that is straight up lying in my eyes. Also their attitude of „we know better than you what is best for you“ is kind of annoying. IE, we made a worse keyboard to make the Macbook even slimmer giving you a worse experience, but you WANT slimmer Macbooks... But nevertheless they also offer awesome user experience like the Airpods, iPhones (eventho they for some reason hate on left handed people imo 😅), iPads, the OS across their devices and the Apple Watch. Using them still is great, but Apple as a company has its flaws. But the most valid critizism i think is their overpricing and price crawl over the last years. If i remember correctly ALL their product have become 50% more expensive over the last 6-7 years and that is kinda greedy. To conclude my oppinions: Apple products are great with some flaws, Apple as a company has alot of flaws with some great aspects.

If they admit it is a flaw, they would probably have to recall all MacBooks with that keyboard which would cost apple a ton of money and absolutely destroy their reputation. What they say shouldn't matter, what they do should. They are offering replacements for free which is good.

Harsh Motwani Thats what i mean by greedy and how they treat their customers. 20-30% is such a high failure rate that every other company would have said so, but Apple on its high horse thinks its better to lie than to admit its flaws. That is whats really annoying. The free repair are even the indicator that they know how much they messed up and still no apology.

That is so not true. The iPhone 11 for example is just 699 , compared to the Xs, which had a starting price of 999, or even the XR, which was priced at 749. Also MacBook pros used to start at 2000USD as compared to today’s 1299 price tag. And IMO, they are more lefty friendly than most tech companies(just look at macOS, which arranges folders from right to left, which is easier for lefties to see, and they don’t have the asymmetrical android home, back and app switcher buttons, they instead have one big home button in the middle. They can’t really do a whole lot more than that without upsetting a lot of righties using their products, hating on apple for their weird button layouts and UI).

This is a great video. I recently switched from Android to iOS and just feel iOS is superior for my needs and wants... but I also understand how it's not for everyone. Ditto with Windows vs. macOS... I actually use both on a daily basis. I don't think anyone should judge another person based on what type of phone or computer they use...

Actually Android has more privacy than Apple because you can unlock the bootloader and install a custom rom and root your Android Phone or your Android Tablet and you can manage your Superuser access which is what Jailbreak lacks on IOS and Android is more powerful than Apple because you have more Freedom

@@sofun2276 its less about phones, but more respect towards others. if they cant even respect the phone you have and that is probably based on 1, they dont respect others much. 2, they never use another product and dont have open mind. 3, i dont think it is "friends". ive been using both platform for over 6 years now (6 years andriod and 4 year ios). in the end i go back to ios based on what i need. nothing to shame about. also if you are an ios user from the beginning, you should do the same, care about android world, and you might find android phone might be better for you, you never know if you never tried. so, actually, you don't get to judge them, neither do they.

It's very simple. Both sides talk a lot of trash. Many people just decide that they must be unpaid cheerleaders for their respected phone. I do however notice that it's rarely an iOS user who picks the fight in the first place. I'm not saying android is wrong but I am saying that most of the time Android users start the fight or debate because they see that Apple is finally implementing something long overdue that Android has already had. I also notice that it's rare for iOS users to call out Android users for being sheep-like consumers. I've liked Apple since seeing a mac in the 90's at my cousins house, running OS8. I finally got my first mac in 2007 and never looked back. This dude at 8:51 is a dingbat, I use to work in a build your own store and use to debate the "PC Master Race" co-workers of mine, they could never comprehend how I could spend over 2k for an all in one when I could build one at half the price. When I would tell them, my machine will work and work always without having me to have to put in things to adjust this, tweak that, modify this, turn off that. It just works, period, full stop. You guys build to overclock & abuse the machines, I don't see the reason for it, I want to do what I have to do and get on with my life, to you guys, this is your life. Thats the difference. I have to agree. I always get some kinda 'stupid comment' because I'm an Apple User. I just prefer Apple Products over anything else, personally. Yes, I also agree that everyone has different set of priorities for example, I like to do more with my gadgets such as taking the admin access and modifying which Apple will never allow it's users to do on iPhone and I respect that because Apple wants it's users to only use the phone as a phone not more than that and it has built the whole ecosystem around it. If you look closely, Apple has clear definitions of the capabilities of each device which is a good thing. However, Apple, since last few years, is facing difficulties in playing fair with its consumers and rivals for not streamlining their ports and accessories, charging too high tax and keeping too high margin, removing in-box accessories, etc. I think the only reason of hate on both sides is showing-off too much with what you have. Whether it is Android or iPhone, if you show-off to one-another, the other person will not just look or listen. The future is devices that work seamlessly together with each other, regardless of platform, so we should work in that direction to make it happen, not shaming each other or banning each others' products.

I agree with your. I’m not a “fanboy” of any platform, I use the platform that fits my needs for the specific task I use it for. I like Android because I can do more, but I prefer iPhone for my daily use because. I prefer Mac for web development because I found it more “easy to use”, that doesn’t mean I don’t like the other platforms, I love Linux for all the freedom it gives and I would prefer windows over other devices as general purposes or non professional use. As an Android user and self-nominated 'tech fan', I totally agree. Actually as a 'tech-fan' I'm pretty thrilled to see certain Apple products, especially the recent ones. (About to watch your how apple hasn't changed later, but in my mind they changed, but for the better). However there are two things worth mentioning, on the opposite defensive side: 1. I personally advocate against the idea of spending money just to be 'nobility' and 'prestige'. I think that a lot of 'prestige brands' are too overpriced. (Apple not that much though, comparably.) I believe that a product is only worth a price for the practical value and utility provided, mostly driven by technology, although can't really miss out the importance of certain details and athletics. I'm against putting up any 'vanity prices', saying that one product is only better and worth more than another because it's more 'recognized by upper-class and professionals'. While I do respect any idea or preferences any consumer may have, I do really mean advocating here, since certain collective consumer behaviors affect the market. Long story short, especially in some 'emerging' markets (like China, for example), for a period Apple WAS a symbol of prestige. A lot of people would by 'Apple' simply just because they think it's a somewhat 'luxury' brand that makes them look 'classy'. And they pretty much shows off in a way that in a lot of ways looked down on non-Apple users (in China's case it's not restricted to Apple users though, it was even more serious in designer brand owners and luxury car owners, etc.). I have to say it's hard for me to feel positive for people to overvalue an electronic brand, whether they choose Apple or others. Fortunately, Apple IS in fact a tech company, and their products mostly deliver what you need practically for an electronic device. And such statements of 'Apple luxury brand' is largely undermined with the rise of likes of Samsung, Huawei, and even Google's pixel. 2. One of Apple's strategies is to create a somewhat 'exclusive private membership feeling', which a lot of business professionals agree that it played a crucial, positive role in Apple's financial success. One of the best examples is, iMessage. Now it has developed into something on par with any other social media services, like those of Facebook's. And, it is NOT accessible for Android and windows users. So the problem exists even if Google and Microsoft can come up with anything equally competitive (which they have not). While that gave Apple a huge advantage, its social effect of division, in my mind, was pretty awful, in a lot of ways worsened, if not created the 'mutual trashing' problem mentioned in the video. There are iPhone users annoyed that some of their most important people in their lives (like boyfriends/girlfriends, or other close family members, friends or colleagues/partners, etc.) DO NOT use iPhone (which should be understandable, I won't purchase an iPhone just for that reason), and they can't iMessage them. I mean it doesn't feel good for Android users to have to choose between switching to iPhone (which costs money and effort, and also disturbs their routine) and maintaining closer relationship with iPhone users. It shouldn't be a problem for an iPhone user to be able to date an Android user, using their phones as a main method of communication, as most people do in 21st century, shouldn't they? ;) There was once rumors that Apple is finally opening iMessage to Android and Windows (not completely unthinkable, they did for Apple music already), however they confirmed that they're not during a conference later, which look to me that this option was brought onto the table, but denied in final decisions. I think it will be great for Apple to somewhat allow access to iMessage for non Apple users, even a subscription fee/paid app is not a bad idea. iMessage is a communication tool, which is a primary function for electronic devices, and spending a couple bucks more for an app or subscription service is way better than having to move to the iOS.

Great video. I used Windows/Android most of my life (and used "feature phones" before the advent of the modern smartphone as we know it). I now have a 2013 MacBook Pro, an iPad 6, and a refurb iPhone SE. I like them all, the iPad particularly. It seems pretty simple: use what you like and don't worry about what someone else chooses for themselves. I would think it would spoil your fun in using the stuff that works for you to turn to attacking people who made different choices. I recently switched to a Galaxy S8 from my iPhone 6s Plus and yes I think it's a better device. However, I loved my iPhone 6s Plus and believed the OS experience was superior. Everything is purely subjective when opinions come to play. I love Samsung and I love Apple.

3 years ago, I used to be a Samsung fan, basically Android just because I used to think being able customizing is the best for me, while Apple products don’t give that kind of opportunity to us. At one point in time of my life, I have to go to college and I need to buy a good laptop. I was finding the best laptop with high performance with good quality since I will attend the Computer Engineering major. Although there were good ones like Dell XPS or Microsoft Surface, I was not living in US or other developed countries which has much more options. So, I have no choice and have to choose MacBook Pro for programming and I shocked for how it gave me the best hardware and software quality with ease to use and well minimal designed, so my mind was like “this is what I have been looking for”. I started to notice people buying Apple products not for the valuable logo, just the attention to detail and the quality control make the logo valuable. Now, I am fully in Apple ecosystem and it helped every of my academic lessons throughout the journey of my university life.

i hate the customzation limitation, but after 6 years andriod, i finally come back. as someone who no longer have much time tweaking around phones, ios is just simply better fit me more. (3gs was my last phone, then samsung all the way), the smoothness and polish is what i enjoy every second of usage. didn't miss the android at all.

I purchased the Samsung active 9 for $1000 With in a year it was crashing, rebooting, and no customer support. 2 years later: I switched to LG 7G , the phone crashed all the time, Great customer support from my carrier, and got a free replacement, but I went through out 3 phone replacements. 2021: My brother got a iPhone 12 for my birthday. It wasn’t crashed, all the apps I downloaded work perfectly, battery still pretty good, Great customer support from Apple and my carrier. Yeah I’ve become a loyal customer for apple! Yeah I miss android, but my needs for a phone that works all the time, overseen anything that android can provide

I think the Apple hate stems from “I want harder to use devices because being able to use them makes me feel smarter” whereas an easy to use device from Apple makes them feel patronized to or talked down to.

Its not got so much to do with "being harder to use". As a power user I lean more to android because it is complex enough for me to do what I want to do. I do have an Ipad though because it is hands down the best tablet that doesn't run a x86 OS.

It's not about the simplicity, it's about the versatility. Everything a current iPhone can do, a current Android can do. Everything a current Android can do, a current iPhone can't do. Its purposely limited. Whether it's for the sake of simplicity, or part of Apple plan to get you to by more services and products, the iPhone simply can't handle certain task thrown at it. Whereas a decent Android, with a little research, can.

The NIONX Incorrect but ok... Theres plenty of exclusive features on both sides. Android is used by a lot of different companies that all have unique capabilities. Huawei competes with Samsung and Google just as much as they all compete with Apple for exclusive features in their phones. I can't just pick up a Pixel 3 and claim its better than an iPhone Xs because the S10 can be used as a laptop with DEx which IOS can't do because theyre both android, I could however say its better because of Pixel Night Sight, which the S10 doesnt have.

@@L33tH4x0rGamer Yes all have thier strengths and weaknesses, that's true, but with just about any Android you can adjust those strengths to fit your situation. Whether it be through sideload or unlocking the bootloader, or just an app download, a little know how can go a long way with an android device. Case in point, you mentioned night shot. I sometimes use an older Essential phone. Great design limited by a subpar camera. A little research and I had the Pixel 3 camera with night shot on my Essential phone. Its these little things why I feel the iPhone is limited. You are only allowed to do what Apple allows you to do. No freedom to be unique or adjust outside of Apple walled garden. Oh, the S10 does have night shot, it's simply not manual.

The NIONX You can jailbreak an iPhone if you want. And I mentioned Night Sight specifically which is a combo of quality google hardware and software. And while you can download the Pixel Camera app, its still not the sane as the dedicated experience that Pixel has. But of course I agree, the Apple Ecosystem should be more about how excellent their products are at working together and less about blocking other stuff out.

That's why I jailbreak I feel I can get the best of both worlds without being criticized. Apple users see me as any other user and for someone with an android, a lot of people see me as "better"(no clue why some people just see it that way). I also get customization options a want with iMessage, great security, and fast hardware.

My best friend is using android, because that gives him the modt freedom. He is an Engineer and write apps for his companie. I using an iphone because i love the design and the experiance. Iam an Engineer too, but with total other working fields. The question uf using Android or iOS does not have anything to do with knowlege or interests in technic. We are both experts in this field because we studied it. It is a simple question of the personal taste and preferences. I don't understand any hate between Apple users and non Apple users, because argueing about personal taste ist real stupid

Thank you. I use apple for design and workflow when dealing in the arts but my friend doesn’t and uses android due to customization and helping with writing /coding. I think the brands are marketed to the average consumer but then to two different types of professionals. One markets to the left brain market and the other to the right brain market.

I use iPhone because I like the camera reliability, fluid and reliable software, solid build quality and raw performance. I’m not saying other companies don’t have these things: the S22 Ultra felt impeccable in my hands when I tried it, and so did the S22 and S22+. But most iPhones are good, they’re just not made for everyone.
