There are casters out there like you're using except once a bench etc is in place the caster itself can be separated from the plate it attaches to thereby eliminating the dangerous tripping hazard the casters you use pose. Food for safety thought folks.

Nicely done. I built a wood cart a while back with similar joinery for the frame but used a pair of 2x4s in the corners screwed to each other instead of the 4x4. An alternative option that may be a little easier than those 4x4 cuts if you only have a miter saw or circular saw.

Awesome bench. A slight improvement to your torsion box would be to use MDF or plywood for the inside grid so those peices won't expand and contract and disrupt the flatness. I doubt it will be an issue for you, but it doesn't hurt to be extra safe.

I've got the same style casters you mentioned and love them. Something to consider. Drill a hole in both levers and bolt a 1x2 peice of wood, or a smaller scrap of steel across them. That will allow you to raise or lower the bench in 2 steps as opposed to 4!

The workbench looks great! I should have made my top like yours. I only had room for a 36” deep workbench, so I used a solid core door, then put a nice sheet of 1/2” plywood over it, so I could flip it for a new surface when needed. The problem is that the workbench weighs a ton! I put those same casters on my bench as that’s the only way to move it, but waiting for them to snap!

I recently built a 42x76 work/sewing/craft table out of 8020 aluminum extrusions with a plywood top and an MDF cabinet, and it's so heavy and solid that I'm going to build a work table for my shop the same way. And then someday I can take it apart and get it out the basement door and put it back together again without having to destroy it.

Nice video and lots of help. Thank you for sharing. One comment (which some may want to quibble with) … I find the title a little misleading as the video doesn’t come “with build plans”. There is an option to buy such plans … but then, there often is such an option with this type of video. Maybe it is I who is quibbling 😮

Currently discussing workshop update at work; we could use a few of these workbenches. Thanks for walkthrough. Enabling the drawers to carry more weight, when loaded, also adds mass to the workbench; providing further stability. Tight clearances on drawer fronts will help keep dust out. Great build ILTMS! And many thanks for the AR visualising tool. Also, also: It pains me to watch American builders continue to suffer the Philips head screw, when here in Canada we have a square headed design, the Robertson, that is superior by every measure. Check it out.

Can you make a video about how to use tools and equipment as a left handed person. I am left handed and I encounter a lot tools that I have to figure out how to use them because they are backwards to me. When I was in a psychology class in college the teacher said left handed people die younger because they improperly use tools that can kill them. Of course she said once a person gets past a certain age everything sort of evens out.
