This past week a tell-all affidavit by the former Chairperson of the now defunct VBS bank was leaked to the media. It revealed allegations of involvement of high-profile politicians and municipalities in the looting of the bank to the tune of R2 billion. However, the NPA had urged the media not to divulge the contents of the affidavit as this has the potential to jeopardize the case and also put people's lives at risk. Do you agree?
To unpack this question were are joined by Sbu Ngalwa, the Chairperson of the SA National Editors' Forum, as well as Dr Llewelyn Curlewis (Procedural Law Senior Lecturer at the University of Pretoria) and legal expert, Mpumelelo Zikalala. Our digital audience also puts questions to the panel.

The issue with documents not being leaked is we’ll never know if some names on the affidavit are simply ignored & not investigated. Look at the State Capture Commission. People were implicated and no prosecutions, at least in that scenario we know who’s implicated & we know what they did. The more public the information is the better we know our own leaders.

Your point carries some truth. However, you should understand the depth of your position say a document is leaked on an ongoing investigation regarding a drug lord or a rapist. This means he or she will have fore knowledge and prepare or run away. The integrity of law enforcement agencies should be protected otherwise we will nothing but a court of Publix opinion and no one will be arrested.

South Africa's brand of government or quality of government is just stupid people who think they are smarter so they have a natural Instinct but to just point the finger... again it makes no sense means nothing they go straight to "whataboutism" they don't acknowledge pointing there finger. Like rubbing the head when worried or in trouble.
