Wow. As much as I enjoy your videos, Becky, I really REALLY needed to hear your message (around the 11-12 minute mark) about making baby steps towards progress. I've been struggling this year with both medical issues, after a really bad fall, as well as grief since I lost my sister in March--who was also my BFF and the last of my immediate family. I make lists, then don't complete them, and then feel guilt and failure and then the next day I have even more to do because stuff was undone. .Lather. Rinse. Repeat. A friend told me to just do the one thing each day that causes me the most grief...so I've been doing that. It does feel as though I'm making forward progress (book shelves are getting built and laundry is getting done and meals are being prepped). Am I racing to the finish line? Nope...but those small wins ARE making a positive difference to my psyche...and to my home. Thanks for embracing transparency and candor and being so strong that you can share your vulnerabilities. That makes as much difference in a life as knocking out 20 freezer meals. :)

My deepest condolences on the loss of your sister, grief can make even simple tasks insurmountable on bad days. I know. I try to do the 'just do 1 thing a day' thing to. Sometimes I get more done, sometimes I don't even achieve that 1 thing, but I have learnt that that is OK. Be kind to yourself.

The foam that says it's for windows and doors are made to not expand as much and will not bow your frames so both cans you bought were the right foam for the job. For future reference if you use a break-a-way bladed knife that can be fully extend it will cut the foam like butter! Total game changer! You can find the knives in the paint department at any hardware store or at any paint supply store. Hope that helps!

I love that you give yourself grace to work on dishes as time allows. I have a lot more time than you do but I have always had a messy kitchen until about 6 months ago. I had a bad habit of putting off cleaning up until one day I just said enough. I cleaned out my cupboards and made one big space for large appliances used infrequently, got rid of stuff I didn't use at all and downsized my bowl and storage containers to items I use weekly. I would rather wash frequently than have them hog up space. I wash bowls and utensils as I cook . I run the dishwasher in the morning after breakfast so day use and dinner plates have a place to go. Usually I don't have any dishes to face after dinner or breakfast except to put dried ones away and dirty plates, cups and eating utensils in the dishwasher. I always wipe and clean my counters with water and vinegar as I go so I don't have to worry about chemicals contaminating my food while cooking. Also when I come into the kitchen if I see something on the that needs to be done my new motto is "if you see something that needs to be done, you can't unsee it, do it then." Has been a game changer for my mental health lol. Also I got a robotic vacuum cleaner to clean my floors. BIG time game changer. You have been a big inspiration for me, thank you for your videos!

great you can fiit large appliances in your cupboards. Here the cupboards are so tiny you can't even fit your kettle in if you want to. I ended up buying loads of shelves coz what 'housing' here provides as cupboards doesn't work. Even a bottle of oil won't fit. Yea believe housing...

Yes you can buy a sheller for your peas. But you will miss a very big opportunity for great conversation and memory making! I have very fond memories of sitting on the front porch swing with my mamaw shelling purple hulls by hand! To this day, it is very relaxing to me to just rock on my porch with a big bowl of fresh purple hulls and just shell away. Remembering my fun times with her! If you choose to let them dry on the vine, a simple trick is to put them all in a garbage bag and beat them with a broom. All the peas separate from the shells and fall to the bottom. My 80yo father inlaw taught me that trick! And I have growers' anxiety too! And this is my third year as well!! Thank you for reminding that it's all in God's plan!

There's a KZbin video where the woman explains how to get out of depression through action, even if only thing you accomplish is a walk. Every try that one thing, then add. I wish I could remember her channel. Perhaps, if you know how to search KZbin topics. One guy said, make your bed, even if you don't accomplish anything that day, when you go to bed, you'll see one thing you've accomplished. I have cats, they need me to do stuff for them, any pet needs a person's care. Or a plant, that helped me through horrible depression, when I couldn't afford a pet. Pansies outside, deadheading, to get more flowers. If it's too much for today, move it to tomorrow, or the next,etc. Baby steps. Perfection is a trap. Becky's, better done than perfect, philosophy is helpful. Rest if you need it, sit on the porch, patio, walk around, sit in morning or evening sun, name what you see. Look for beauty, gratitudes, even if it's only the beauty of the sun shining through a drop of water on a blade of grass. Or being warm and dry in my little shack. My crappy childhood, KZbinr has some good tips also. Better alone in a house with a leaky roof, than a house with a contentious husband. Healing is a process, be patient with it. I wish you the best.

Thanks for taking us along on your journey! Just before I sat down to watch this video, I spent a little time in my garden...weeds, Japanese beetles, and deer can make me discouraged but then looking at healthy looking tomato plants, green beans in flower and a zucchini ready to harvest can certainly help!

I truly needed that motto. Done is better than perfect, you are so right on the mark there. I recently had my alternator changed out on my van and had the same issue with it not wanting to start because it was down for a month. My mom had given me a NOCO Boost sometime last year and I had never used it before but decided that since I didn't have anyone to call to help get it started and I really needed to go somewhere that I would try it out. I can't believe it took this long for me to use it and it goes everywhere with me now. Total game changer for me, I'm no longer afraid of being stranded by the battery.

I've found using a serrated steak knife or tomato knife works great for cutting/trimming excess foam spray around windows and doors. Comfortable handle to hold, and gentle sawing motion works like a charm! Enjoyed the video. I literally said "OH NOOO" when that truck didn't start! LOL ~~M~~

Your home is really coming along, well done on your progress, remember to also rest! Xx
@kerrynphillips91532 жыл бұрын
That is so so true. It is so easy to get caught up in making progress and ‘getting it done’ that you forget to take time for yourself but I find the job will be done much better if you take time out to rest occasionally. If you continually push on to ‘get it done’ you may find that the progress made is not quite as good as you would like it to be and you can be disappointed with it later.

Sugarsnap peas are the best. I am enjoying your new house updates. Love seeing the garden harvests too. That insulation foam works great just don't get on hands or flooring. A bread knife works well for cutting.

Progress is good! And crossing things off a 'To Do' list is so satisfying. If you are stressed about what may not grow in your garden, you sure hide it well. I appreciate and am encouraged by your "some for the bunnies, some for the birds, some for us." attitude. Am curious how you deal with slugs in your garden. Such a nusance here in the PNW!

For shading the summer sun, look at what are called sun sails. They shade what is underneath them outside which can be deck, siding, and also windows depending upon rhe configuration.
@tjeanvlogs98942 жыл бұрын
This is a great option for the maritime Pac NW climate. We need what ever sun we can get in the colder months (Sept to June)

@@tjeanvlogs9894 look at Harbor Freight Tools (HFT), black mesh, 60%-70% UV ray blocking, sun shades found in the tarp department. They have a "side" identified by looking at the tape with rivets sewn around thier edges; placed correctly they are better for shading but, you can't see in except for shadows at night either. We've used them ourselves in different ways but have also installed them at other's places. They work best outside with at least a little bit of dead air space; ends of eaves, hung over a roof and held in place by bricks, on a roof wrapped over 4"x4"s. But they dropped a friend's brightly window lit apartment's temperature by 20 plus degrees when hung as curtains over mini blinds and as a curtain liner over the big windows; warning the mesh is uneven and can't be used as a cutting measurement guide AND it likes to ravel so must be folded immediately and then at least hand tacked in place.

About the shelling Peas, my moms taught me that there is a membrane inside of the pods that can be taken off, and once removed the pots become really tender and nice to eat. I'm from Denmark so not sure if we have the same types of shelling peas, but it is worth a try!

If you do by the croissants again, whenever we get them I automatically split them in half when we get home and freeze the other half. I know you mentioned freezing them, just thought I would share the tidbit of doing it right away. Even if they're just in the freezer for a few days it helps with us to not feel rushed to get through them. :) I've learned a lot watching your trial and errors. Thank you

Please do not give your girls moldy food! It can be toxic.. One of the most common illnesses it can cause in chickens is mycotoxicosis. The most common symptoms include diarrhea or weight loss, leading to very underweight chickens. Love the trim!!!

Becky, keep in mind that blinds will not only shade windows to keep the room temp down in summer, but will act as an extra layer of insulation over those windows during winter. Especially during those cold snaps we generally get in January here in the PNW. Large expanses of glass, even if they're thermopane windows, can still suck heat out of the room way too fast.
@mollyvanatta76672 жыл бұрын
My grandpa was a carpenter and built my grandma and his own home. He had one of these sunrooms off their dining room and built it with a sliding door between the rest of the house and the room. They could keep it closed during extreme heat or cold to avoid having to heat or cool it! When we had get togethers the door would be left open for full use of the room. If it was cold all they would need was a small heater for the space and they could open the windows for the warm season if they wanted it a little cooler! They didn't have blinds or curtains, just the windows with the "blinds" between the panes of glass(not sure what those are called). You guys are doing such a great job on fixing the place up! And I gotta say, you had the right idea getting all this done before moving in! Don't ask me how I know😅 Love your channel. May God bless you abundantly!
@maike__-2 жыл бұрын
Where I’m from, those type of sunrooms are called Wintergarten (winter garden) and they are typically built outside of the rest of the house, as an addition. So the house would be finished with a back/ side door and the (partially) glass wall start on the outside of the house like an extra room added on. That’s because they’re often built as an afterthought, but also for insulation reasons. If you don’t cover the windows/ glass walls it can get really hot in there. My neighbour actually used that room to dry flowers and herbs and sometimes other veggies.

Hi Becky, whenever I buy Costco croissants I always put them in a freezer bag and stick them in the freezer. They go bad really fast as you discovered. Then you can just pull out one or two and set it on the counter and it thaws in 10 or 15 minutes. Love your videos.
@alohaeverafter68862 жыл бұрын
We do the same with the croissants.😊
@loritanner44782 жыл бұрын
I buy croissants at Fred meyer. I get 12 for 7.99 or 8.99. And then I make my hubby sausage patty breakfast sandwiches out of them. And then individually wrap them and put in the freezer, 4 sandwichesto a gallon size ziplock. Then I write on them what they are on the bag. Last time I bought them they had croissants with everything bagel seasoning on them. He loved those. I make the breakfast sandwiches with a sausage patty, different sliced cheeses, then I use my egg steamer that has a little round tray. And I scramble eggs and put a 1/4" of egg mixture in that round tray and steam it till it puffs up. And I use that for the egg in the sandwiches. Works great. I make him croissant, English muffin and biscuit breakfast sandwiches. That way he can grab the kind he wants out of the freezer the night before and take them to work. And then heat them up in the microwave at work.
