Honestly, it's nearly impossible to run a competitive D1 program without adequate funding and scholarships. Presbyterian College might as well transition to D3 if that's how they view the football program. This coach was set up for failure without the resources tbh lol

The thing is the conference they play in for football(Pioneer Football League) is a non scholarship league, so with the exception of Campbell they've been playing teams who are also non scholarship, but even when they were a scholarship team a few years ago they were still cheeks. Presbyterian is a really small liberal arts college in the middle of nowhere south carolina so it's hard to attract talent to that type of place.

Like Ksang said the whole conference is non scholarship. So they are all on even ground. Now them against the other conferences like the playoffs is not an even playing field. Coach knew what he was getting into, still cant believe he tucked tail and quit. Instead of being a man and seeing it through 3 or 4 years and actually turning the program around.

Coach Kelly was doomed from the start. Not many quality athletes would be interested in attending a college in the middle of nowhere on no scholarship. It’s evident that they should’ve been doing tackling drills every single practice. That secondary sucks.

This system could work in college on lower levels, but you must have 100% buy in from the coaches, players, staff, administration etc. And it will take some time to build. This coach didn't have that and it failed. 🤷🏾‍♂️He couldn't even get the players to buy in.

He’s not “the problem” but he is a problem. This is a D-1 school with no scholarships, decent facilities (at best) with a really young team, and he has 3 weeks to install a system. All of that is the main problem, and it’s out of his hands. What is in his control; his receivers look like they trying to basket and body catch in practice instead of hand catching, his QB is trying to throw into windows that aren’t there, his defense is soft his players are grown men who don’t seem to cool about being treated like HS kids, and none of those players are built to defend 50 yards and take long drives for four quarters. His system is great for offensive numbers and page clicks, but the offense was never consistent enough to keep scoring over and over and the defense got beat up so bad they couldn’t stop anyone as the game went on.
