Why not reintroduce the original queen back into this hive and let the colony you had moved her too requeen and maybe get some of her hygienic trait

Well there's very little doubt that they HAVE varroa, and plenty of it: We saw a couple of instances of a "phoretic" mite on the top-side of a worker. VVVVVASTLY more varroa prefer the underside and if they are becoming obvious then your colony has a huge infection rate. Be interesting to see how this ends.

I love that at 33 seconds when you say you were told that you won’t have to treat for varroa you put up a shot of a bee with varroa.

It’s more than that.. in small cell the males get caught between the cocoons and the wall more then half the time so it drops you’re mite reproductions rates down to 0-1 per cell instead of 2+, between that and having hygienic bees it keeps the mites in check.

If the mites are reproducing more effectively in your large cell hives, then it wouldn't bee too surprising that hygienic bees would do this.

So you were given a priceless Queen with potentially revolutionary genes, and you messed it up?

Er - not really. I still have the queen with those genetics. Problem is, for her to pass those on, you need to artificially inseminate her daughters with selected drones with equal tendencies to clean varroa and uncap brood. If left to nature, the trait will be diluted into the natural drone population down to nothing within a couple of generations. I have plenty of queens that can cope with varroa. I have breeder queens that are bred specifically for their VSH tendencies which are leaps ahead of this one.

Hy lasource here finally stoped using my girlfriends email lol. Did you get a chance to look at the ots method of queen rearing. Any how man when I took out a queen and put her into another beehive the queenless big part turned real nasty. Like real effin bad. But what is strange is the queen right part is now behaving exsactly the same effin bad too. Never seen that before. Another thing I saw and you might have an answer is one of those queenless colonies made an open queencell with a 4-5 day old larve in it (so just before being capped) 19 days after I took out the queen. That should not even be posible. All worker brood was capped by then. Any ideas.

Any chance the flow in your area stopped at the time you did the queen swap? That can send them into a very unhappy place and make them moody

@@won2winit yep it was raining but both hives are still very moody even with the main flow now underways for days.
