After a disastrous first two years and loosing all bees and comb. I decided to get back into it on the cheep after a two year break. I caught two swarms in traps and they are doing great. I recommended your page to lots of people because of your knowledge and excellent videos that are very helpful. The day I moved the first capture to a 10 frame deep in another location I caught another swarm in the same spot with in 30 minutes. The best part is it was only 20 feet from my front door.

Good video, Kamon. This is something I will use often. I don’t have a lot of room in my home yard and being able to increase vertically will be a big help, I have had an amazing year for increase between splits and especially from catching swarms. I’ve gone from only three survivor colonies to 18, which really has me hopping to keep up. I am out of bottom boards, lids, and slatted racks, so when I am not running between bee yards I am in the shop building. Today I used my last assembled frames and need 60 right now, so there will be some late nights in the shop. I am semi-retired and until now have always thought of myself as a software engineer or engineering manager. Now I refer to myself as a beekeeper who works on the side.. I have said it before - I am very fortunate to have you and a couple of other KZbin beekeepers (are you listening, Joe May?) whose experience is useful on a daily basis as I strive to keep up in skill with all of this growth. I captured a swarm this evening that comprised over two gallons of bees, had to downgrade a weaker colony to a nuc to have a place to put them. Stu

Double screen boards are a great tool if your double deep hive swarms. Split the boxes, put the double screen board in between and you increase the odds of getting a mated queen back. If one doesn't come back you just combine and you still have your double deep and if both queens come back mated you've now got two colonies.

Varroa realy loves me..😂. So i don't use the smoker. The spray botle is my smoker in the summer. When varroa is out on the bees, no capt brood, ther is no need for chemical tretmants. If you have just 10 hives and all you need is honey for the family... We have hives thet are in the 5th year just OAV in novenber and a summer brood breke with lactic acid in a spray used as a smoker.. 1 thing is a problem. It's not inaf if your bothom bord is fool wood. Varroa needs to drop out ...

Hey Kamon, how are you? I have a question for you about package. Say I ordered a package of bees WITHOUT A QUEEN, and when they arrived, shake them into my hive with a very small tab of lemongrass oil. Would they stay in the box without a queen for a couple days? I ask this because I'm planning on getting my queen from a company that does not sell packages? So I want to save money on a package and then introduce the queen. I know this is an awkward scenario, but was wondering if it would work? Thank you for your feedback.

Hello Kamon, thanks for the great videos. Somewhat offtopic question. I noticed in one or more recent videos you have hung apivar strips in your hive(s). Does this mean you are done harvesting honey for the year, from those specific hives? I'm in southeastern Michigan, so I'm a month and a half behind you, spring arrival wise, so I haven't harvested any honey yet. For any given hive, should I take what I'm going to take, from that specific hive, before treating with apivar strips?
