My mother would have loved doing this. She had searched for antiques and collectibles on little money for years. Then in 1980 she had back surgery and was never the same. She also had hereditary neuropathy and arthritis. When she couldn't keep going, we would shop for her. She would tell us to get anything she couldn't live without. Sometimes she'd ride with us and we'd park in front of the store and hold up things in the windows waiting for her thumbs up or thumbs down. She suffered but those were great times for all of us.

Please don't judge but estate sales are a hard one for me. It's someones home, belongings, life treasures. It was obvious this person took very good care of their belongings and treasured what they had. I was so deeply touched when you named the deer after the owner, Marilee. That was super sweet. You certainly found some treasures. There is no doubt that you'll enjoy and treasure them, which in the end is all that matters and I am glad some stuff found a home with you two. 🎄

We agree. There are some sales that we go to that feel very intimate, with photos and personal information left in drawers. We find those to be tough. One way we look at is we get to treasure these items for many more years to come, and thank the previous owners. Thank you for your comment, and for watching!😊

Great video, I saw a few things that you passed by that I would have purchased. I do realize that an estate of a deceased person must be sold and dealt with, but I still can’t help but feel kind of sad that a bunch of strangers are now rummaging all throughout this deceased woman’s home who appeared to have been very neat and organized.

Wow. Interesting sale. I think you should have picked up a few of the Ephemera pieces. Like the counting book with the Elephant on front and a few others I saw. That's really popular right now with people who frame them or use them to scrapbook or journaling. Also the vintage wrapping paper packets. It was still great what you got!!

My mom was 90 when she passed away and she kepted every decoration we ever had as growing up from a child Well sad to say that when my children went to help me clean the house out they just thought it was old stuff and threw it all out . I was able to save one grocery bag have not investigated yet. I enjoy watching you ladies you know your stuff.👍👍 Sandy Chicago

I hope you find a treasure in the grocery bag that is full of loving memories of you and your mother . Its sort of sad to watch strangers rummage through a lifetime of another persons memories after they pass. I know it's better than throwing everything out , but still makes you think . I know a lady that died recently and her kids came home, rented a dumpster and had the house cleaned out in one day . It was sold last summer in a 3 days when the real estate market was on fire here, they left and flew home. A entire life of memories, things that meant something to her one way or another gone in one day . I also realize you cannot take it with you and we all have to sort through a loved ones belongjngs after they die ...its just nice to do it in a way that's not so harsh .

I see what you mean. I am in the UK and this concept is mind boggling to me. We don't do that here. If someone dies a company comes in and takes everything out the house and then sells the items.

So this is a dead persons house and you're allowed to just totally rummage through it? How are the prices decided. And how do they know no one is stealing things they find? This is not something that's done in the UK. Interesting!
@ShinyBriteDoggo3 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes usually the estate sales are done after the owner has passed away. Then a company (or sometimes family of the deceased) will open the home up to people for a sale. Some companies will give almost all items a price tag, and others will just let you go in without an idea of how much they charge. You then bring the items to whoever is in charge of the sale and they decide a price for it all. As for stealing, we’ve been to sales where there is a worker of the estate company in every room watching. But we have also been to sales where everyone is left alone and it’s more of an honor system. That’s very interesting to know that these sales are not done in the U.K. Thanks for watching, and we hope this clears somethings up for you!
