The french title is "Les Centurions" of the book of Jean Lartéguy. It takes place during what is called in France "the war of Algeria" 1956-1962. And freely inspired by the course of M. Bigeard > The real motto was : believe and dare (croire et oser)
@arslongavitabrevis5136 Жыл бұрын
You are right. I remember reading "Les Centurions" in the late 1970s, a wonderful book. Jean Larteguy was a real soldier, he fought in WW2 and Corea, therefore he was fully qualified to write about soldiers and their feelings. Here is a good biography of him: fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Lart%C3%A9guy

Surprised the officer took a back seat on the jeep. The seats on tdhem were usually as comfortable as pineboards, and if you want to sit anywhere in a jeep, in front was usually preferable to in back, given its narrow wheels and such. OTOH, it was a reliable machine and easily repaired and maintiained.

Description is for the film "Play Dirty" with Michael Caine. This is the Algerian French War 1954-1962. The camouflage is correct as the "Lizard Pattern". The uniforms were darker shade than the shelter tent halves. Weapons are very accurate with the exception of the 98K Mausers used by some of the paratroopers.

Mausers 98K was used in the french army to 1944 at 1954, and a few 98K used in algerian war. Like the P 38, Radom Vis 35, etc ...

@@IoannisAr Who said that ? The lizzard pattern is french, it begun to be used in 1947. How can anybody could seriously say the French lizzard comes from the Greek pattern as it was created when Greece was still engulfed in a civil war and wore pre-war british and Greek uniforma ? Greeks and Portuguese only copied it !
@laurentdevaux56172 ай бұрын
@@alaincharlesleroy87 Yes, but not in the regular troops in Algeria, only for local units and also in the first years of the war in Indochina. In Algeria, the paratroopers only used MAT 49 sub-machine guns (we can see some here) and MAS 36 CR 39, the shortened, aluminium folding stock version of the standard MAS 36. Here, the Mauser you see are Spanish 1943 Mauser rifle, which is normal as the fil has been shot in Spain and as the MAS 36 CR 39 is a very rare weapon. The French regular troops in Algeria used only MAS 36, sometimes MAS 49 semi-auto rifle, and later MAS 49-56 semi auto rifle, nothing else

Those caps are indeed the most stupid-looking ones I've ever seen. Unclear on exactly why they couldn't adopt something that looked less silly. The FFL caps are legend, for example...same country, same army. Why not simply make a soft version, as the British did with their service caps in 1914 (giving birth to the "Gor Blimey!" hat for field use).

I take it your an American ? Because your comprehension of history is very American , atrocious . ‘Lost command’ is not set in the 40’s it’s set against the backdrop of the Algerian War of Independence between 1955-62 ! PLUS French airborne units exclusively wore an almost identical camouflage pattern to Portuguese lizard print(they copied the French pattern) . 🤦♂️
