Way back in the day in a TEAMSPEAK channel, one of my friends was trying to set up a minecraft server and he was struggling and another friend said 'All you gotta do is Port Forward, dude' and he said it in such a shit-eating way I thought this was a bit, so I joined in like 'Yeah dude just Port Forward. it's that simple.' This continued for like 5 minutes until "oh! Port-forwarding worked, thanks guys!" I've thought about that ever since.

We've all been in this position. Some games/mods make me need to get a PhD in random internet topics to set it up. You find like one guy from 10 years ago on some backwards ass forum who has the solution you need or some KZbin video from 2008 with 240p and crappy audio with someone giving the solution in some foreign language for the issue. And then once you get everything set up, you never want to move or change anything since you'll inevitably forget how you got it set up again.

@logainwolfe19884 ай бұрын
There should be an option to treat troubleshooting online Mario Party as an additional battle mini game. The person who solves the problem gets to start at an handicap advantage and the person who is deemed to have created the problem has to play as Luigi.
@unknownbunny98884 ай бұрын
Why is there no punishment here?
@polocatfan4 ай бұрын
honestly I'd let the person who solves it play as Mario. Mario has a slight advantage since for whatever reason Whomp is slightly more likely to pick him as the predicted winner during the last 5 turns no matter which position they're in.

@Manelneedsaname4 ай бұрын
How about the port 8008
@KyleDavis3284 ай бұрын
I mean, 8080 _isn't_ an HTTP port like they thought, it's just very commonly used all over the place, so it's often taken by other applications already. Luckily all of the ports above 1024 are technically open for anyone to use, though a lot of them are registered as in use by common applications. I'd classify 8008 in the same category as 8080, not reserved, but often used as a web server default because it's semantically close to 80, the actual port for unencrypted HTTP traffic. To explain to any who are curious: anytime you browse to a website starting with it's over port 80, if it's it's port 443. If you were to host a website on either of those ports (or preferably both, over each protocol), that would be the only website that can be hosted on that network. For networks that host multiple sites (read: all of them) this doesn't actually work, you want google.com to go to google and youtube.com to go to youtube even if they're hosted on the same network. So instead of hosting the website on ports 80 & 443, you host what's called a reverse proxy server on those ports, which listens for traffic, figure out where the traffic wants to go (google or youtube in this example) and redirects to the ports that those servers are listening on. The key is that the actual servers need to be on other ports, which ports? it doesn't really matter. But often for brevity's sake, including the numbers 80 or 443 in the port somewhere are a good human-readable way to tell network managers "hey, this is a web server, a reverse proxy should probably proxy to me from the web" so common ports for hosting web servers end up looking like 8000, 8080, 8443, 8008, etc. Some applications take these conventions as assumptions and can possibly create issues, but I think the problem here is that 8080 was possibly already being used by the router itself for a remote webUI, or maybe another application on Simple's computer already laid claim to it. Hard to tell for sure without being at his computer.

Right? And I know Cox's Panoramic Wifi Router/Modem combos, they absolutely suck. Buying a quality Router and Modem save you money too, Cox charges like $20/mo to rent their routers, and it came out not long ago that every Panoramic Wifi Router has a huge backdoor that'll let a bad actor control your device without even needing to break a password, and I don't think Cox (or any ISP that uses those types of routers, I think Xfinity does too) has put out a fix yet.
