It Steals challenges us to learn the ways of each of its five mazes, as well as the monsters within, WITHOUT telling us how to do so. Through trial and error, death by death, we'll have to learn their rules, and how to thwart them.

Somebody probably told you on the discord, or in the comments, but the small stars under the big ones are bonus levels. They keep the same gameplay, but are quite different in their execution.

Something I'd like to say because you were having so much trouble in The Phantom is that you were going into it with the wrong idea. Having seen other people play the game the devices shouldn't be used when you start getting chased because they aren't one use. They a permanent placement and recharge after they zap him so you want to place them in useful spots then lure the Phantom to them when he starts chasing you.

yeah it was a little annoying when he made an incorrect assumption about how something in the game worked and then got frustrated with the game over it. Like imagine you give someone a saw and they complain about how it didn't hammer in nails very well.

@@Ilzhain I've seen him do that in multiple videos and it never gets easier to deal with. If you truly can't figure something out, there's a point where you have to consider that you don't actually know what is being asked of you and need to have it clarified.

The devices disappearing from the bottom left after being used makes it seem like they’re one use and don’t recharge. Only putting devices down at the start of a chase is definitely a mistake, though.

@@Kipwich They disappear from the bottom left because you only have 2 in your inventory. Once they're placed though they're permanent for the duration of the run. By recharge I mean that the devices you placed down recharge, you don't get more than the 2 though.

@@newmanbiggio4597 I understood your earlier comment, no need to explain. The bottom left is not connected *directly* to the inventory. If it was, the device would disappear after taking it out of that inventory, i.e. placing the device down. Instead, the device only disappears from the bottom left after the charge is used. If devices do actually recharge, then this part of the UI is somewhat misleading. By making the device and its charge meter disappear from the display after a charge is used, it makes it seem as if the device cannot charge again.

The last one is good when you know what you're doing, for the devices you're not supposed to place it down when it's chasing you, you'll never get away like that, my advice is place one at the start or as soon as you hear movement (no matter how close or far you hear it) they also appear on the radar so you always know where they are I recommend actually using the guides for it to be more fun

I feel like his problem is he either does not listen to audio cues, or just does not have his volume on at all at some points. Cause the game does require some intense listening. There where just times I could hear the monsters behind him and he would not react at all to it nor the constant beeping of his radar which is not needed to hold out to sense the danger, just to look at the time. You can't play the game based only on vision alone which will make it 10X harder to complete. That or the lack of understanding some mechanics that are not fully explained.

So, game developer in the making. Answering your question in 8:40, there are two ways of creating a pixelated look. The most simple one is actually rendering the 3D scene in low resolution, and then upscaling it without any kind of filtering (filtering makes the image blurry, it works good upscaling HQ images, but not for a retro look). The other way is using a filter (or the tech word: shader) to mimic a pixelated effect.

Zeekerss was originally a developer who made Roblox horror games, and as such is versed well in the not-so-rich history of those games. For instance, the timer from Living Halls is a direct callback to an excellent horror game that has long been broken due to updates, RED44_SATYR44. I would recommend you check out Zeekerss’s other game on steam, The Upturned, and if you have the bravery to boot up Roblox, either The Silent Dark (pick a version which has been fixed) or Light Bulb: Reilluminated, both of which are Zeekerss’ best Roblox projects. Or, keep ten miles between you and Roblox. your choice.

Oh goodness, I had no idea you were into this style at all...have you ever played Zardy's Maze, by chance? It's like a spooky n64 inspired cornfield maze thing. As someone who's Bad At Horror Games, I fell in love with it this year - and it's free. Maybe you can give it a look sometime, see if it's worth a video or not, hahah. Anyways, It Steals...gotta admit Pastra's video showed me the gist of the game and I hella respect it stylistically and the gameplay seems tense but tight enough to be enjoyable. Super reminds me of that one 'spooky pacman' game, what was it, Dark Deception, something like that. Still a real neat concept for a game, great execution here.

I feel like a better hide and seek is we’re you get a clock on your screen counting up but when you find him it will then count down. I feel as if doing this increase difficulty while be simple. And make the monster harder to find would make it more of a challenge for the player.

Yes, it's often just using a shader, that downscales the image. In the background, it's the same high resolution rendering, meaning the downscaling is only aesthetic and has no good effect on performance.

I’m sorry, you weren’t playing the phantom right at all. Eventually you got that it was repelled by a fully charged device, but with the knowledge that it charges so slowly how did you NOT come to the conclusion that you needed to place them before it catches you? If it catches you and you don’t have a device down and charging beforehand you should be dead, point blank. That’s a very simple concept. You complained that you liked the concept of learning mechanics on your own but couldn’t figure them out, but the clues were RIGHT THERE. And you didn’t catch on. That isn’t a game problem, it’s a you problem. Although, I agree with some of your feedback. Living halls has a great concept, but doesn’t work in a game like this. And if every mode was expanded upon and given a story, I’d love it.

I Just now started it and it's giving me full on heart attacks.
