It looks like Special is a solid hit on Netflix, there will be a season two and Ryan wants to make the series into longer thirty minute episodes so I'm stoked.

Hi Ryan, your show is reliability about cerebral palsy. I have just seen the first few episodes. I am in my late forties,, I am female. But also have mild cerebral palsy. Your show is refreshingly honest. Thanks Lucy

@@Mayeverycreaturefindhappiness you totally missed the point
@Mayeverycreaturefindhappiness5 жыл бұрын
I'm actually really interested in your opinion. I don't think you can say I missed the point . I would argue you're just looking at the show through disabled person eyes. If they made that show about any other minority group that group would protest the show. However, disabled people always been low on the social ladder. Look at Trans people a few years ago netflix had a show about where one character was a Trans woman who was a hacker. This helped change the perception of Trans people. Ryan O'Connell showed a disabled person doing everything a disabled person is expected to do no real career, lives at home and no real power. How does that help disabled people? I know people with more severe cp who are PHDs who have real careers. That's what I want to see show what disabled people can be. Bill Cosby did this for black people with the Cosby show the parents were both professionals. He showed what black people could be. If I missed the point it is only because if you looked deeper there isn't one. Also there's a difference between people with minor disabilities and people with major disabilities it doesn't appear that Ryan took the time to really understand disability issues.

I have cerebral palsy too! I have a mild case that only affects the left side of my body, Mostly my left arm and hand. All the things in the show “special” I’ve felt and done myself. I used to tell people I sprained my wrist so I didn’t get questioned about why I was wearing my brace on my arm. It was easier to say that than to explain. I had been asked If my boyfriend was “normal” because I had a disability and otherwise it would have been weird? Ignorance!!! I’m sooo happy this show exists, I’d love a second season. There’s soo much more of Ryan’s story to tell. Thank you for being brave and telling your story and for giving me some courage to feel like I can do the same! ❤️❤️

I've never related to something so much in my life. I've got mild cerebral palsy down the right side of my body and while I fully accept I've got this disability, it can be truly exhausting. I work in Retail and when someone asks if I've hurt my hand or wrist, I just say that I have because I'm exhausted of explaining myself. But I've fully accepted that it is who I am but it definitely doesn't define me. I am more than my disability. Plus I'm also bisexual so can relate on that front also. Thank you for an amazing show 😊

Ryan, what meaningful, beautiful content you have given us. I can't thank you enough. I think we all have some kind of disability, more or less debilitating. I am also gay and it was no big deal to come out, but I am also bipolar, which has been masked by meds and I certainly function well, but it is still there and I certainly can't tell many people because it is very misunderstood. I have kidney problems because of the early bipolar meds and am on special diet because Lithium hurt my kidneys. I am always asked to explain my veganism which is for the kidneys. There I said it. I am gay and also bipolar. Hey, maybe that could be another Netflix series :-)) LOL Ryan, a big hug and may you have much success in all you do!

Your story it's really clever no one see the people Whit disabilities like real people they becomes kids or things Whit out necessities or even sexuality and you give them one voice not only to the gay community
