Literally my favorite KZbin channel being a beginner in woodworking. You keep things at a level that makes things seem less formidable while letting people know valid and valuable information. Everything in your videos looks "considered" As for the bar. A good name would be "the learning curve" Shawn's first time using power tools and you wont be walking straight after a couple drinks at the bar.

Beautiful build! The gap between the legs and main unit really elevates the look of the final product. You have quickly become one of my favorite builders on KZbin, and I wanted to echo your sentiment re: measuring. My father and both of my grandfathers are "Master Carpenters" - as in, they went through the full apprenticeship process, and as a result I grew up in professional grade woodshops and am pretty competent as a woodworker myself. One of the best bits of advice my father ever gave me was to "take as much human error out of the process as possible" well that and "only a CENSORED CENSORED measures every time" and I learned early on to create jigs, templates, and stop blocks to allow for repeatability without the need to measure, because every time you measure is another opportunity to introduce human error. You mention sticking to a plan when you have a situation where you're making cabinets for a specific space - one of my grandfathers spent much of his career building custom cabinetry, and he had such a time getting things to fit that he ultimately ended up buying reams of super wide butcher paper that he would take to a job site to tape up and physically mark where things were rather than taking down measurement numbers. This allowed him to ensure everything fit before trucking it to the client and finding out he had to cover a half-inch gap or something.

After explaining the best way to do the job, you finish with, "It's ok to screw up." I love that. My dtr, when 5 y/o, tore up any drawing that did not meet her expectations. I had to convince her that anything worth doing is worth doing POORLY AT FIRST. It really is all a "part of the process."

We call the "line" between the base/legs and the cabinet carcass a "reglet", instead of the rabbit (or rebate) as stated at 11:58. That is also a difference between a "beginner and pro", of course YMMV

I once tried gluing paper with 5mm squares onto my workpiece, to cut down on measuring. It was a revelation. For any small pieces I'll use the trick again for sure.

Another entertaining and educational video. Watching your videos helps me have the confidence to try new methods rather than the newbie tricks i'm still using 2 yrs later. Thanks for the video, I appreciate your time.

Absolute perfect combination of wisdom and humor, nicely done. :-) I even watched the sponsor spot. @ 8:22, well said and can't be said enough. Time is the one resource we can not under any circumstances earn more of. While I was chuckling throughout much of the video, I totally lost it at 9:22 lol That entire sequence of events is exactly how it plays out; measure, figure out I screwed up, drop tape measure and walk away in frustration. Awesome job dude.

Sir! I absolutely love your channel and envy your knowledge. I find myself rewinding a bunch because I laugh at what you just said and miss the next thing. I've always wanted to get into woodworking and your videos are inspiring since it is kind of intimidating for a guy who isn't too handy and sits in front of a computer for 8 hours a day. Currently gathering some of the must haves so the journey can begin!

A better than average example of mid-century modern, the curve on the little feet, drawers-n-doors and the knobs are spot on. Next time maybe the drawers IN the doors or some asymmetry! I hope you wrote your name on the bottom with a fat pencil. I also like the Bartition.

Call it the “Commodore Perry.” Your neighbor was wearing a Don’t Give Up The Ship shirt from Erie Apparel (I’m from Erie and spotted it instantly). Perry had that flag displayed on his flagship during a victorious engagement against the British on Lake Erie in September 1813.
