I totally agree. I’ve caught numerous double digit bass between 12pm-3pm in the Florida August heat on the Devil’s Horse. I’ve had good luck with poppers also and working the Booyah Toad Runner in pencil reeds. Best bass fishing is coming soon. 👍🏻

Any time can be a great time to throw top water if you are looking for a big un. Lol but the fall migration is super fun.
@PeterWFishing2 жыл бұрын
Certainly about to be that time here in SC. I’ve been catching more fish shallow lately but they haven’t been wanting to hit a topwater readily. Water temps are probably at their crest right now, going to start to see them fall soon.

Do you wait to feel pressure on a frog, wait to see the frog disappear or count before setting the hook on a frog? My frog hookset could use some work, I miss on em a lot.
@MrFishBlood2 жыл бұрын
The most useful tip for me came from Mike Ioconelli... Wait for the blowup, then say to yourself "set the hook"... Say it out loud to yourself, and don't say it in a hurry, just normal speaking speed "set the hook"... After you say it, do it! Set the hook! The time it takes to say "set the hook" gives you about the perfect delay most of the time.

Frog fishing is fun but you will definitely miss some fish. I try to keep little slack in my line, if the wind is blowing this can be tough as braided line will bow on the water and get stuck on lily pads, which makes missing the fish more likely. Waiting like Ike says is crucial when they do hit. Finally, I miss very rarely with the megabass frogs. Incredible hook up ratio. I use booyah frogs a lot but the megabass just hooks them better. I know they're expensive but they are amazing. Tight lines!

@@greghammett7894 I had one blow up but miss my frog yesterday. We will see what happens tonight after work! Thanks for the advice guys!

@@collector_effectors when I said little slack in my line, I meant almost none. Just enough to walk it correctly. After rereading my 1st post that was confusing. Good luck!

This sounds crazy, but years ago a good friend who was well known as a local big bass angler around Raleigh was catching fish one day in the back of creeks while flurries were coming down on a buzz bait! Would not have believed it if I had not seen pics. Farthest bait from my mind in January.

I have never been too successful on a top water.......except a week ago. I was fishing a small stream with a spinner. It's a feeder stream to a swamp and has a variety of species and sizes. I was tossing a spinner and it landed partially on a lily pad. Immediately the water exploded. I was so stunned I thought it missed. No, it was a pike. Not huge but fun nonetheless. Made me laugh and going to try some topwaters.

Randy, one of my favorite lakes to fish down here in Texas has grass out to about 20ft. It's not all the way to the surface except for 10ft or less. Does this still apply in this situation or can I expect them to be put a little deeper on those same points?
