I learned a similar lesson when I was doing photography at a gig. At some point during the night someone spat on the lens of the camera. By the end of the night it had dried in like a spider web. None of the pictures were effected because a) the outer lens is for capturing light and keeping out dust and dirt. b) the point in which you're focusing on is so far beyond that lens that any and all imperfections blur out. If you see 35mm photos with dark shadows and scratches I can only guess it got dust trapped inside the lens itself, between the focusing lenses.
@bp4955999 ай бұрын
The imperfections are blurred out, but it does lower the contrast of the image due to scattering. For example, blacks won't be nearly as dark because brighter areas are blurring into it.

A lot of people don't understand optics. The light from every part of the scene passes through every part of the lens and is incident upon every part of the sensor/film. So any dirt, smudge, crack, etc. anywhere on your lens only has two effects. It makes the entire image darker, and it makes the entire image blurrier/hazier. That's it. You're not going to get any sort of cool effect (at least in the in-focus part of the image) by putting obstructions on your lens. Period.

There is a reason for that. Color finally overcame black and white in high-end work, but retouching color film or color prints was very demanding and expensive...and basically not done under normal situations. Diffusion in the camera or in the darkroom removed many blemishes and wrinkles. That was the case until digital imaging became popular.

In early 2010’s it was a trend to put a Saran Wrap on the lens with Vaseline or something on there. It made a similar effect. It was “artsy”, but a bit stupid in retrospect

@mishan1665 ай бұрын
