Well, birds are related to dinosaurs so...
@Cole_McGill3 ай бұрын
@@msmaria5039 Not just related to, they ARE dinosaurs. Look up an Emu skeleton compared to a raptor skeleton. They look like they'd be different species from the same genus(even though we know they're very different in many ways). Birds are the last remaining dinosaurs. Also, some things we think of as dinosaurs, actually weren't dinosaurs, like the marine-reptiles of those times.
@Major0032 ай бұрын
@colemcgill A better dinosaur comparison would be Gallimimus.
@-user_redacted-2 ай бұрын
@@Cole_McGillyou seem to be forgetting entirely about sharks, colecanths, horseshoe crabs and gators/crocodiles. All of which have undergone less evolutionary changes than just about any species of bird.
@Cole_McGill2 ай бұрын
@@-user_redacted- This is not true at all. In fact, crocodiles/gators are more closely related to birds than any other species of reptiles. And a large portion of dinosaurs are more closely related to birds than gator/crocs.(btw, birds are considered reptiles now because of how closely related they are to crocs/gators and pre-historic dinosaurs) I'm not forgetting anything, I'm talking about dinosaurs(not all pre-historic animals), and specifically referring to the presence of actual dinosaurs in the modern day. And to be clear ¾ of the things you listed aren't descendants of dinosaurs. Horseshoe crabs ar invertebrates(so far from a dinosaurs that its laughable to compare them), sharks are fish(not dinosaurs), and colecanths are also fish(so, again, not dinosaurs). There is still debate about if crocs/gators can still be referred to as dinosaurs, but birds like Emu don't have that debate, they ARE dinosaurs. I believe we should consider crocs/gators to be dinosaurs, but the current unchallenged decision is that Emu are dinosaurs, meaning they are the onky extant species to be fully considered a dinosaur(as far as I know, because things change all the time and the debate about crocs/gators could have been settled by now, idk). Also, if you're having a hard time wrapping your gead around birds being considered reptiles; don't worry, it doesn't need to make immediate sense, because most things won't. Just look at amoeba, they're a grouping of organisms that exist in several kingdoms(animal, plant, ect...). They are all more closely related to each other than any of the other organisms in their kingdoms. Whether it be a common ancestor(that stole parts of other organisms as it diversified, taking on abtributes of those cells and appering to be a part of that kingdom/entering into that kingdom) or convergent evolution, they are all still amoeba. That is much more of an oddity than birds being reptiles, and it doesn't even have the same support behind it(birds we now are more related to dinosaurs and crocs/gators than other reptiles. Amoeba we don't know what's going on with them, other than they might be the most advanced cellular organisms(they advanced as single celled organism, in colonies, instead of going multicellular; they also took a route that seemed to favor making each cell fully capable of altering itself from one version/type of cell to another, basically morphing into different cell types; both of which allowed them to advance into a single celled organism that is more advanced than any other individual cell in any organism/that has the most potential for advanced forms of life in the future)). All that to say, the process of classification is weird and can be confusing at time; but it makes sense for the people who know all(or at least, most) of what is going on(the people actively studying it).
