This was one shocking find at the abandoned creek property today. We went out to bait in the bear that are living on our land and we came across something that got attacked in broad daylight.

Hi Kevin (Dutch too.) I do follow your channel didn't realize you both so close. I seem to be really attracted to many of the Oklahoma channels of homesteaders & farmers and Ranchers... Maybe because I have friends and family living out in there plus Arkansas & Texas too... The farthest I've lived about 45 minutes or so from Texas in Louisiana. I had said so also, to pan for Gold ... I have heard to catch the water at the crevices and where it is dark, render the water into a swirl of particles, collecting water and the particles into your pan. as you swirl steadily the water around edge of the pan ... allowing water to surf gently off skirt of the pan... Really check the KZbin channels for Panning Gold... You can look online for a start kits .... Would the mountain lion get the hawk? Didn't you say a mountain lion? you Ya'll need to have a bit of protection for yourselves... I know you say you carry a side arm... would a side arm handle it if a bear came after ya'll... I know you do not want to hunt... but, remember you want to be safe. Yes, your cabin is awesome Kevin... could your Uncle have built the cabin... you said 1930's... close to the 100 years ??? Dig up as much information about your properties guys.

We have a Black Bear wondering around our neighborhood. It's not cold enough for Him/Her to hibernate! They will smell Bird seed from miles away. We have to pull the feeders as to not have them come right up! Be careful K . JO JO IN VT 💞💨❄️

It was a treat seeing both of you together. I get a little worried with you out there though. Mountain lions stay up high and can pounce before you have a chance to move. Plus they stalk. The bears will charge and if they dont stop oh no. I heard before that a small pew pew wont do nothing but make them even more angry. I know you’re careful, just get some books and read about bears and learn all you can. We love all of you!

Dutch, It was great to see you and Kevin doing your thing. That tree, is bear damaged, for sure. I send a photo of a huge pine tree, at my Grandfather's old camp. It has severe claw damage as the bears were going after the bugs . The tree was used as a deer rack, over the years. I sent it to you, over on Facebook.

You might check with the DNR for known caves in the area. There nay even be a map available. I've mentioned before that there are trained cave mappers that would love to come out to the property. Just set some ground rules since I know you don't want a lot of folks on the property. They will be able to answer a lot of your questions.

Yes, the weather is wacky…my bother had a lawn full of robins in a January … in southern Michigan. Yea! This coming week, on Wednesday and Thursday we are to have 5-8” of snow each day. Crazy weather!

You two are a lot braver than I am. Two things occur to me after watching that. If it had been me and I expected to actually see a bear, I would have put up my cameras before spreading all that stuff to attract one so my cameras wouldn't have the sent of that stuff on them. Hope they are still in one piece when you go back. Second, I would not have gone anywhere near that place with all that bear candy with just those hand pop toys you were sporting. Nothing less than a 12 gauge at least.

Did a little searching on the hawks there in Oklahoms. It looks like a red shouldered hawk by the coloring and under stripes. It's possible it was killed by a Great Horned owl at night. That's when they go after their food. The only bird that will threaten and harm a Bald Eagle. A sleeping hawk would be east prey for the GHO.

You could very easily have an aquifer that is under your property. The water will just come out of the hill side any where it wants to.

You may want to take a rake to the property and rake out as much of the leaves from the waterfall pool as you can. Also rake beyond the pool to see where the water will naturally flow from the pool. It would be interesting to see the depth and route it takes.

Apples are a great bear bait in Michigan. Our deer feeders also get wiped out by the bear. You might think the feeders are anchored good, but the bear still will knock them over.

I replaced it recently so here I am trying to catch up with some of my favorite homestead family videos. Hopefully your hands didn't leave meat smells behind on your cameras. What about just bring some of the water home with you. You can maybe test it at home if you keep forgetting the tester. Yes that sure does look like a coopers hawk. They are very intelligent and sneaky birds. Had 2 youngsters try sneaking into my Barn. Landed right in the middle of my flock of chickens. Walking around trying to grab my little bantams. Easier to carry them away maybe. I chased them away but I was really surprised they landed like that and walking around with my girls. Lol
