Hey, hey, hey Chad...A “Grandpa mirror” could give it some individualized character! And that is priceless. As for the cattle question...Go for it! What have you got to lose? And besides, “busting ice” will help keep you motivated to get up and out on those mornings when you might rather keep the blankie up under your chin just a little bit longer. But by all means...go for the beef. And Maybe Case and Adler would have fun with you and Grandpa constructing a lean-to shelter for winter shelter against the elements. I’d be willing to bet your boys would have a blast creating those memories.♥️

The Beefy Boys said, "That guy has wheels on his feet. He's weird." We fed our roosters ground corn. I'd definately get 2 beef now and the spring get 2 more. We put it through the fine screen on the hammer mill. Depends what the price difference is between layer and rooster feed. My brother-in-law rode my nephews scoter down a hill once. He went head over tea kettle. My nephew was worried about his scooter not his dad. Nephew said, "He swore so I knew he was alive. LOL Case and Adler you better make sure dad has a license to ride the scooter. At least keep a eye on him.

Chad, The great thing about raising your own beef, you know what they were fed. The other side is to stagger the processing dates for each animal. We always did stagger processing, just so we could make space in the freezer. In my dad's family, there were 9 siblings with 7 households all in the same city. Everyone got hamburger meat throughout the year. Most of my uncles also deer hunted, so there was always a swap going on. One uncle raised meat rabbits and he always swapped Hops for Moos...Staggering helped keep all the relatives in fresh meat...Oh, I almost forgot this....Your Rock Star Roosters remind me of the group>>>>" Kiss"...Cheer from Maine.

Oce you get caught up on all the beef you need to divvy up, then setting up for 2 or so a year is good. We used to swap some of our beef to the butcher towards processing cost. He liked our organic beef. A lot.

Look for saddle feathers back by the tail to tell if rooster. If the feathers are pointy it's a rooster. If rounded then hen. You can't always tell by comb size. Also with mine, the roosters have thicker legs.
@samueladams17753 жыл бұрын
Try mixing oyster shell in the feed. That will help improve egg production. Also, I give turkey/game bird feed along with chicken oyster shell mix. 6 scoops of mix with 1 scoop of turkey feed. It boosts nutrients, especially protein.

I've always feed my roos layer feed. I have 24 plus hen and always keep 2-4 roos. My favorite passed in 2020 he was nearly 10 years old. Hi brother died a few months later and his 3 rd brother is still in the coop. He is blind in his near seeing Eye. But he is other wise healthy. That eye got injured in a scuffle with his brothers. It healed but it was injury not illness is what I'm rambling. Anyways. Layer feed is basically upped calcium and uped protine won't hurt the boys.

I supplement with garden veggies & clover from the field.
