Sorry, I should've gotten all my thought together before posting earlier but I just got through reading other posts. I'm really surprised that a lot of people think this instrument is expensive or over priced. I thought the price was very fair given everything it stands for. Proceeds are going to a charity, it's a signature model and if you compare it to similar Gibsons it's actually on the cheaper side. Also, if you divide the hours of enjoyment you'll get over time against the price of the guitar, it's a steal!

Gibson signature should only be given to rock legends not KZbin influencers, whats next Rappers who appear in videos pretending to play guitars getting deals ! Gibson need a marketing rethink or in 2030 they may not exist anymore !

The guitar sounds outstanding. I like the blue color and open pore finish. I think the guitar looks even better without the pickguard. Love the sound of P90s, and the feel of a thin neck. The light weight, and balance (no neck dive) are a big plus. Getting a guitar that you don't have to "fix" is worth something of a premium, and donating his share to a worthy cause is good form. It is perhaps a bit pricey, but that's a nice guitar.

Exactly what I was thinking! The guitar is light, looks good, seems to be very comfortable to play and sounds freakin' awesome. What else do you need from a guitar? The quality on the bench looked great as well. I really don't see the problem here. Okay, price is steep, but if I could play nitro finished guitars, I would definitely take this over P90 LP standard.

LP DC specials as a LP DC Jr which i have (with 2 pups now though) great light guitars. But it so uncomortambly for using during sitting process - learning new material or sofa training - it has too narrow distance between your leg and pikups, and too heavy back part of guitar. It needs an additioanal control everytime as a LP standard. Strats way too convenient in that way. Need to say i would rather prefer LP tribute series with maple neck, which i have - chould be a litle bit better balance and way too durable neck.

The tribute model you mention for the low price point has front loaded on the pickgaurd controls which was too cheap for me , then no binding which I happen to love on my Gibson ES 335 Lucille and Dove and actually every bound neck I’ve ever played is super smooth… the light weight and thin mahogany is a winner for me as well. 2K it’s definitely worth it for those reasons alone not to mention it’s intonation seems premier. I sense a little sibling type rivalry between you guys. Thanks for the great detailed video of the product. Good job.

With the price of this one, I feel like Rick as an educator and Gibson should consider an Epiphone version of this guitar for students that don't sit on a lot of cash. Not that $2000 is a lot for a *good* instrument, but still. They would need to get the QC sorted though.

I think the price is just indicative of how stupidly expensive Gibsons are getting nowadays. A regular single cut special is $1800 now. The only other doublecut specials on offer right now are the custom shop reissues. The closest comparable artist model (given artist inflation and whatnot) is Tony Iommi's SG, which is $400 more for a different strap position and bridge. Meanwhile you can get a regular SG Special for $800 cheaper. Gibsons in general just cost too much new to be justified, even with wood shortages.

Gibson, please continue making these style Les Paul specials, but don't cheap out on the things that makes these Les Paul Specials special. I would love to see Gibson bring out these Les Paul Specials but maybe with a TV Yellow finish or another finish color. Also, please have the inlaid headstock, not the cheapo Silk Screen headstock. Thats what confuses people of determining of this is a junior or a special. I think the Les Paul Specials from the 90s did it right.i guess until then, ill continue to wait or keep on hunting for a 90s Les Paul special.

Yeah, like how much are those 'Custom Shop' 50s LP Jr/special REISSUES? Aren't they between $2k-$3k I guess you'd be stuck with TV Yellow instead of Blue Mist, but at least you're getting a CUSTOM for the extra cash, rather than just a truss rod cover with some 'soon' to e anonymous 'KZbin' celebrity...

determining of this is a junior or a special. ---- uhhh no, that's not it, JRs have one pickup and specials have two. Maybe you are confused by the Tribute series, maybe you're confused that gibson has called some dual humbucker LPs specials, but it's not the JR that's confusing lol.

This Rick Beato guitar sounds killer recorded. One of the better p90 guitars. Clean they are not too hot and give a very nicely defined sound. To select wood this light must have been hard on the Gibson crew. To pay extra for an ultra light guitar. A very desired feature is actually quite inexpensive on this Gibson.

Rick Beato is a music juggernaut in the KZbin world... for a good reason. The guy knows his music and has been a phenomenal addition to the music community for the longest time. People bought his guitar for the hype, the name, the nostalgia. However, this is a middle range guitar priced at a premium price. Would be right at $1,000 if it wasn't "Rick Beato"; I really hope whoever bought these enjoys playing them for the memories of all the hours spent watching Rick Beato KZbin videos!!! Can't really be negative about this since I've done something similar to this before, so I 100% understand why people pay so much for mediocre instruments. I was really into Stone Temple Pilots while playing bass guitar for a rock band. Found a Schecter Robert DeLeo Signature guitar and overpaid for what was hard to find at the time. Lol I still have it and it still puts a smile on my face because every time I play the thing, I remember all the concerts I went to and all the STP songs I played at gigs. For the sentimental reasons, this Rick Beato guitar is worth the money if you're a huge fan of the guy.

I’m sending mine back. The binding was very carelessly scraped and left rough and full of chatter marks. Then it was poorly masked off, the paint was applied thickly, then the masking was pulled off. The resulting sharp, jagged edge looks and feels terrible. Almost goes without saying that the fret ends are sharp. The nut looks barely finished, there appears to be a crack at the nut on the treble side where the fingerboard is delaminating from the neck; on the bass side a corner of wood chipped and was painted over. All might be forgiven if the guitar were light and resonant and played like a dream, but it’s 8.4 lbs and feels like it. The fingerboard is a nice piece of wood, the case is nice, I like the neck in hand (aside from the atrocious binding), but with the weight and the finish issues vs. the price I just can’t live with it. I believed Rick’s spiel and I was prepared to pay more for charity. This guitar doesn’t feel right, though, it makes me feel like a mark.

A P90 though stays tight and clean without compromising my big sound from the bridge :-)

Love the honest review. I love Rick, his channel, and his passion for music education, and I am glad that he got his signature guitar (finally). I agree though, that $2k is too much for an LP Special. Unless that last 500 (or more) is going to charity. I paid about the same for my LP Traditional, which looks a lot nicer. They should have listed it between 1200-1400. I do love the P90s, though. I think they put the P100s in the previous run of LP Specials.

A little off topic, but you showed a sunburst Les Paul Jr. My dad bought me one of those used back in 1965. After a few years I stripped off the finish, sanded it down and put a coat of varnish on it and resanded it with extra fine steel wool. I destroyed the value but I was 17 or 18 and didn't care. Beautiful natural finish. Now comes the really dumb part. I sold it in 1968 for $150 because I wanted to buy some weed. As George W. Bush once said, "When I was young and stupid, I did stupid stuff." That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Luckily today, I have two beautiful Les Pauls and a Hummingbird. As far as Rick's signature guitar goes, I love Rick but the best thing about the guitar are the P90s. I would not have bought it. I'd rather have an Epiphone Casino if I wanted a cheaper guitar. I am a huge Beatles fan.

I'm excited for mine to come in. I've been shopping for a p90 guitar for awhile, and when I found out about this guitar I kept my eye on its release. I am excited to own one of these because there aren't many double cuts out there that I've liked, and this guitar is gorgeous. I love the blue, and I really like how the finish shows the grain. I think the fact Rick's proceeds went to charity, it's a unique finish, and a thin body; make up for the 200$ price difference one would have to pay to get a brand new les paul special at 1799$, and that's not even a double cut (which i personally prefer the look of), and no tune-o-matic. We'll see how limited this release is. If it remains a single 500 guitar run, i think the collector value of this, mint or otherwise because of its unique colored finish, will more than retain/grow the value/cost difference of other 2022 new specials. If they have 3-4 more runs, maybe not, but considering they sold out within hours of the first day of launch, I can't imagine it won't sell more or be worth collecting regardless.

Rick Beato is a very knowledgeable musician, so when he commissiones Gibson to build him a signature guitar. a person can bet that it will be a pretty good guitar. of course he probably doesn't have as much control over Gibson's quality and pricing. some of that premium in the price could be due to the charity that is involved with the sale of this guitar. so that could take some of the sting out of the price of this guitar. and the guitar must be pretty good if there's none available.

That’s awesome Rick gave this model some love! I love my 2003! I rode mine pretty hard the first few years I had it, I wore the frets flat, but the finish is still on it. Polished up in a few places from playing, but still intact. The old ones don’t have the bound fretboard, oh well, I kind of prefer it. The big problem I found was the Gibson branded pots! Trogly, revisit and check the pots! Mine were 250k which made it sound dark and muddy, kind of like your tone test in the video. Swap those for 500k pots and it suddenly sounds like P90’s! I’m not kidding, watch out for those Gibson branded pots. I’ve seen them go both ways, but I feel like they put them in cheaper models so people will want to spend on the pricier models that sound better. All that being said, those are really great guitars that will really treat you well, especially when they were cheap. I think they were $750 back then, I got mine scratch and dent for $425. Scratch and dent on a “worn” finish… hehe. I love that guitar.
