Very useful discussion on current Ethio-Somalia relations. My take on the issue is influenced by the duplicity of the regime in Addis. 1. A regime that openly stated it uses a 'convince & confuse' political strategy is capable of starting a skirmish in Dollo and blaming rouge elements. 2. The so called Ankara Declaration is a time buying tactic on both parts. The Somali government understands the current Ethiopian regime is unpredictable and immature. It's buying time and hoping developments in Ethiopia will lead to a regime change and common sense prevails. On the other hand, the regime in Ethiopia is hoping that Somaliland will get recognition and the clause on respecting Somalia's territorial integrity becomes naturally invalidated. Especially, if Western powers gave recognition to Somaliland as a country. Zero sum thinking on the part of the regime in Ethiopia.
