Ive got this model and i”m attempting to fit internal scratch built bits like taileron PFCU and wing sweep actuators and realistic wing pivots. I never learn it’s a hell of a job to keep motivated. I do admire your perseverance with your model making your’e quite inspirational.

Top notch stuff as always.I continue to enjoy the series. I'm a pretty easy going person. I certainly enjoyed Steve's work. No need to get worked up and complain about terrible the kit is, just find a resolution and move. I guess we Engineers are wired the same.

I think the engineering brain is a good point David and I think there is definitely something about diagnosing and working out fixes for fit and assembly problems wired in somewhere. There is usually a solution if you think it through and plan ahead carefully.

I just gotta say. You are one of my favorites on KZbin. You are clear in explaining everything and your camera work is on point. And of course your models are great. Curious on what big ship you'll do next? Maybe tothe 200th yamato final.version? Lol. That one is cool because the crew sprayed or mopped black paint (or soot) all over the decks near the superstructure. Gives it a different look. Or....the 200th USS Hornet with the dolittle raiders on the deck. Or...haha. ZM new Korean war era AD6 Skyraider in dark blue. Just throwing out things. Haha. Whatever you work on I will definitely watch.

Thank you that’s nice to hear much appreciated 👍 but I don’t really have any more room for any more 200 scale ships. I have some 1/700 to do and a 1/350 Ark Royal so that will be next.

Hi Steve, the Tornado is coming along perfectly, the swing wing kits certainly have a bit more to consider when gluing parts together, I hope you have a special place in your display area, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les

Thanks Les it’s a commission build so it won’t be staying with me. it will be going to it’s new owner in a month or so.

Looking great Steve! You're whipping that kit into shape. I've just finished an Italeri 1/72 F-5 jet as a Canadian CF-116 variant in RCAF service in the 1970's. I had some really bad fit issues on most of the fuselage and tail parts, and the gear doors when closed had some huge gaps. Disappointing, and this along with what you are finding on the Tornado kit I think I will avoid this brand now. Tamiya kits are exceptionally good in my experience so I think I'll stick with them now. Cheers from Canada!

Thanks Jeff it isn’t a shake and bake that’s for sure but not too bad. I’ve tackled worse. Tamiya are pretty faultless and I go back to one in between more testing kits for a bit of a rest.

Love the Tornado, I live in the Hebrides and they used to practise there low flying, I think they were training to bomb Tiree airport runway, it was brilliant to see how low they could get , the farmers weren't impressed.

Awesome work as usual! This is going to be a very large model also, I'm assuming this one is yours, and you will need to clear space for it? Anyhow, again, beautiful work Steve, and sorry it took me so long to comment, it's been a busy couple of weeks... Eagerly awaiting the next update!

Thank you - no this is a commission. I haven’t got the space for it but it’s a great opportunity to build the kit. I think it’s still one of those once in a lifetime projects so I’m glad I get to do it.

Hello, I was in the USN and assigned to an aircraft carrier. When the planes 1st flown out to the ship they were a uniform gray, but by the time they left some panels had been pained in slightly darker / lighter than the main color (only 6 months and you could see it)

Yes and the Tornado at the end of its service life was a patchy looking aircraft. Hopefully I haven’t overdone it 🤞🤞

The modifications performed on exaggerated surface details to achieve scale accuracy is unusual on build tutorials but is vital in recreating realism. Thank you, Steve for addressing this. The last four aircraft projects I built had the majority of the construction time taken by correcting outer surface detail accuracy issues. For modellers that, as they often claim, dislike the pressure of requiring a bunch of aftermarket upgrades to meet an expected standard, modifying surface details is a low cost upgrade for most aircraft kits. Two recently completed of four 1/24 Airfix Mk.IX projects have only resin exhaust stacks as part replacements. The rest was my own improvements other than a '1 Man Army' paint mask set. If interested they are on my channel. For a masking option that may work well for you, conform setting elastic putty is effective. I use AK Camouflage Plastic Putty.

Nice insight thank you. Toning the panel detail down on this one was essential in my opinion and requested by the client who commissioned the model. It’s not difficult but labour intensive so will put some off. I’ll take a look at that putty sounds like an interesting option for masking.

@@TheModelShed I should have mentioned I used the AK plastic putty for the camouflage on the 1/24 Spits with great results the first time but found it a tape replacement for many smaller jobs.

Hi, lovely builds as usual, not as regularly as I would like... but I understand the priorities. One question though- Will the Bismark make it to Telford this year? Or will it be torpedoed like the real one, not by a Swordfish but by a Tornado? 😃 Kind regards from Montevideo
@TheModelShed
@TheModelShed 2 ай бұрын
Thank you. Yes the Bismarck will get to Telford next month. I actually finished her last November just after the 2023 show. Missed finishing her then only by a few days. The Tornado is taking a lot of my time as it’s a commission build and also scheduled for Telford.

Hi Steve, I passed a comment on the IPMS Panavia Tornado SIG about ehe nib finger seals on the wing sweep and how they should always be in contact with the wing surface did you read it by chance? 😀 it’s shaping up nicely now.
