Years ago I was a gun manufacturer and dealer which allowed me to have select fire and full auto weapons. I had two select fire BM59s imported by Springfield Armory along with all the accessories. One was an Alpine version with a folding stock and the other was a full stock version. Both had these bayonets. They are long since sold off into the class 3 collector world but I still regret selling them.

So I have one of these, and I have seen one with wood handles. I am also seeing some for sale with black checkered grips but it's unclear to me if those are BM59's or if the sellers are confusing M7's for BM59's. Do you have any info on that? The ones being offered as BM59's with black checkered grips also have American made M8 scabbards, to add to the confusion.

I haven't seen the black ones before, they could be anything. Maybe US M7s or even Italian BM59s with M7 grips installed?

That bayonet will only fit on the rifles that have the locking lug coming directly off the barrel. There are other bm59 variations which are even shown in some of your rifle still shots that have the locking lug mounted lower more so coming off of the gas tube area. That requires a modified garand bayonet with a 22mm ring. It’s possible the difference lies in whether your rifle had the Grenade launch capability but I’m not %100 sure of that.

Will this bayonet fit on a civilian ar15?

It's not designed to but it might

No, It will not. There are a ton of US M7 bayonets that will fit. The 16" barrel civilian carbines will not work with US GI bayonets, but the 20" barrel rifles will as long as they have the bayonet lugs.
