Florence is such a marvelous, and sometimes almost magical city that is so rich & dense with history, culture & beauty (on basically every level and form)! I will always cherish my memories of the time I was privileged to live there! This Baptistry features an exceptionally extended & clear reverberation allowing one to, in effect, harmonize with oneself easily creating triads. And the doors feature wonderful, famous bronze reliefs. And the duomo next door is absolutely spectacular and almost overwhelming in so many ways! But honestly... The view from the top of Giotto's bell tower beside the cathedral steals the cake on a clear day! You can see the entire city and into the rolling fertile hills of the Tuscan landscape with the Alpenine mountains on the northern horizon.

To be noted the relevance of entities like "Friends of Florence", a US non-profit organization which not only supports the Galleria degli Uffizi but other arts interventions as well. Treasures like the Battistero are world heritage which should be preserved at their best for everybody. The cost of preservation is sometimes prohibitive and often not understood by most. Any support is crucial.

I've been there & I've seen many historical & beautiful buildings, artworks, etc... Everywhere I've been & seen sites like these I also notice the reality around these sites and how people have become numb, indifferent & accepted it as the norm. I was Greece last summer & I was in awe of the historical sites, but disheartened by the abject disenfranchisement & desperation of the people. There is going to be a breaking point that will spread across the globe, which doesn't have to happen.
