Holy cow, 12 years of studying Italian and your demonstration of how to pronounce gli made it oh, so easy!! I used it in the Beginning Italian class which I am teaching but I added "think of trying to get a bit of peanut butter off the roof of your mouth". First try and everyone was saying it correctly!! Thank you!!!!!! Brilliant!! Sooooo glad you decided to start vlogging on teaching Italian!!!

YOU are great!!! I have been in an emersion program, the school teaches in Italian language ONLY, I have struggled for 5 weeks, not understanding anything since their instruction is in a language I know NOTHING..I had no idea what they were saying and when I asked in English what they were saying they told me to ask in Italian!!! For now 5 weeks I have felt defeated -and distraught, then I found your videos.. on KZbin...and they have greatly helped me.YOUR SAVING MY Language LIFE.....Thank you...Grazie!!!

Tom, these vids are so helpful! As a vocalist I study a lot of Italian pieces. Pronunciation is important, but I also want to have an understanding of what I'm singing in order to properly convey the piece. This video in particular is excellent and cleared up a lot of confusion about how "the" and "my" are used. Thanks so much!

The fact you explain what definite articles actually are and all those actual language concepts, it makes reading the commentary in Duolingo much better. People will explain what something means but sometimes I find it lost on me when i don't know what those mean in English lol.

Hey there, Tom. Great videos that I am going to get my husband and daughter to watch. They're also really helping me as my Italian is okay, but not great, so thank you! I also thought I'd give you a bit of a heads up on how I learnt, many years ago, to pronounce "gli" 'cause it's a pretty hard one for people to get. If people say the "Billiards", that's pretty much the sound that they're looking for (as in the middle part of the word, i.e., bi-LLI-ards). Also, I think that a great adjunct to your lessons is a website called "Duolingo". It's really great for putting what you're teaching into practice and my husband and daughter have learnt a lot from it in just a few weeks. I hope that helps a bit and thanks again for the great videos. You have a lovely way of explaining things that makes the complexities of Italian a lot easier to grasp. Cheers!

I'm not sure if you can with the edits you already have in the video. But in my opinion i think in the videos you teach Italian speakers some English if you put subtitles translating what you're saying it would make it easier to follow exactly what you're saying for less experienced people. I have to say though you are by far the best i have seen. Your enthusiasm makes the videos easy to watch, you are very direct and clear. Molte Grazie!!

Ciao Tom, ottimo lavoro! Volevo solo darti un piccolo suggerimento da insegnante: la ragione per cui Lo zaino o Lo schermo diventano Il mio zaino o Il mio schermo, quando c'è l'aggettivo possessivo, è perché la parola "mio" o "tuo" cominciano con una consonante semplice e quindi l'articolo determinativo che precede diventa "il" :)

Ruth Jimenez I'm Italian and I don't think gli pronounce was explained clearly.... It's hard to explain but I think that we stick 2mm from the edge of tongue to the palate and than we stick off the front part... I don't know if I explained it right... It's just a thing that we never think about.. (as you probably don't think about your TH sound which a lot of may friends find hard...). I think he's a good grammar teacher but don't care too much about his pronounce... P.S. Wheilá is only used in SOUTH ITALY! (the stress is on the last vowel, and in Italian you NEVER stick ei together in an unic sound!... so it becomes: /ueilááá/ or something like that...)

I never had intentions to learn Italian but now I do. This language sounds just beautiful! And I find it interesting that the possessive pronouns are connected with the definite articles because it's the same in the Scandinavian languages as well. In Norwegian for instance. a house is et hus. the house is huset. and my house is huset mitt. And may I say that your eyes are beautiful!^^ Thank you for this video.
