Italian Gestures

Gestures you might see in Italy if you study abroad with the University of Texas' Rome Study Program, as performed by Antonella Olson's ITL 506 class Fall 2008.

"Lo juro" isn't write like this, but like this: "Lo giuro" and "Wonderfu"l : "Al Bacio". Then the gesture of "Perfect" and "A long time ago" aren't absolutely like you had do in this video.

Your effort is admirable since Italian is a very difficult language and we often make gestures that express what we're trying to say in that specifical moment and therefore vary depending on the moment. But I live in Italy, I was born and raised here and I honestly have to say that I've never made half of these gestures in my entire life. I don't know if they can be seen specifically in Rome since I live in the North and I've only been there twice, but I've never seen some of those.

I love the phrase "boh". my teacher in high school told us that Italians said it all the time. We thought it was funny sounding and we thought that she was trying to play a joke on us. When my class got to travel to Italy, we heard it a lot. my friend came up to me and said "we've been in this country for an hour and I've heard 30 fricken bohs so far" lmao.

You didn't see them because some of them are specific of some regions so you'll see them only if you go in those regions. In mine for example we do 'are you crazy?' differently from what is seen in the video but in other regions that's the hand gesture used.

Here we do it in orizontal, not in vertical. Hand gestures though, can have minor differences from region to region so maybe in some other region they do it in vertical?

@Deisinoful I think because we are really like that (I'm italian), no one else in the world uses hand gestures as much as Italians (maybe in south american, and I think because of the Italian immigration happened there).

The 'g' next to the 'n' usually create the 'gn' sound which is completely different from the 'n' sound, so no, to say the letter 'g' is silent is wrong. The word 'significa' can't be read as 'sinifica'

La forma corretta sarebbe 'al bacio' e sì, si usa in Italia per dire 'perfetto', 'spelendido'. Immagino che la doppia 'c' sia un errore di battitura. The correct wording would be 'al bacio' and it's used in Italy to mean 'perfect', 'wonderful'. The double 'c' is likely a typing error.

that gesture in the face doesn't mean good looking but it refers to a person you have to be careful beacause he is criminal or delinquent.

Il gesto per "perfetto" non è quello,(the gesture for "perfect" is uncorrect); correct writing "al bacio" (pron.ʌl bʌ'tʃo), uncorrect writing "al baccio" ; cameriere (pron. kamɛ'ri:ɛrɛ) uncorrect camariere.

Lol, nice, some very nice, some it could be better but...made by foreigners...well done! Most of these gestures are solid in Italian daily use, the thing is that you can't use them safely and properly until you really get a feel on them, which takes a while. But some of the gestures are newish casual or personal, others are old fashioned. I think that two were wrong though: "perfetto", see another video for how we do in most places, "tanto tempo fa" is far too exagerate thus different than real
