The term is "code switch," it's something you do unintentionally without thinking. Few people have a condition when they do it automatically even if they never heard the language/accent before, but more commonly it is found in either bilingual or bi-regional dialects. For example my friend and I are not bilingual, but we were both raised in America, however, our parents aren't. My dad is from Zimbabwe (think Australia meets Britain in accent lol), and her folks are from Northern Ireland. When we talk to our friends we sound completely American, but the second a parent is on the phone we suddenly speak the Queens english. We both do so unconsciously, and it can be a bit embarrassing sometimes cause people who know you look at you if they hear it like WTF. Most American raised kids with Queens English parents tend to grow up speaking the Queens english, but then Americanize their voices to avoid being signaled out by classmates; cause bullying is a thing and for some reason saying shark differently just gets you laughed at 24/7. You would never hear me talk to my dad in a full on American accent much: one, because he legitimately understands you better, and he is partially deff on top of it so it just helps him, and two, because he bahs at me sheep when I say things like bAH-th to him (sighs). You will also rarely ever hear me talk to my American friends in even a partial Queens English voice, as you get teased too much (it's not from a bad place it just gets old rarely quick), and you also just have been trained so much to americanize that it tends to be automatic.

It always happens when you hear your “Mother Accent” (your language). Or when you are hearing certain accent. For example, I’m from Puerto Rico and when I went to Dominican Republic, I started to speak kinda like them, but when I heard my grandma on the phone, my normal accent “came back”. It’s something completely natural and really cool and beautiful. ❤️
