Hi guys, today we are taking a look at the Italian M4 bayonet for the M1 carbine. This is virtually the same as the USGI version except it has a plastic handle instead of leather.

I have a 1957 one made by AET serial #471xx. It came with an Italian produced M8 (not M8A1) green painted fiberglass sheath that is identical to the earlier U.S. produced ones without the end cap or reinforcing grommet in the lanyard hole at the bottom. The sheath has no production markings but is otherwise as described above with no M10 wire hanger. I have seen references to these sheath also fit the M59 rifle bayonet, itself a modification of the M4 bayonet apparently.

Your scabbard may be an Italian produced one, don't think they were ever fitted with an M10 hook, and there are no markings on the locker.

These have a different ring size than the m1 30 caliber carbine. They will mount but they wobble around the barrel because the barrel is much narrower than the whole. I would not recommend buying these for an m1 carbine as they do not fit properly.

I bought one of these at a reasonable price for my REPRODUCTION (mfg date 2016) Inland M1 Carbine . Either the bayonet, or the carbine itself, has a dimensional discrepancy. The Italian M4 is 0.10 inch short of snapping onto the carbines bayonet lug. Just an FYI. I will measure the ring diameter v.s. muzzle diameter when all three of us are in the same place with a measuring device. That may be another issue. Thanks for the info.

Okay let me add that apparently there are two styles of the Italian made banats that look very similar. I got two of the M59? Or something like that off eBay and they had a larger ring hole. I did purchase others verifying they fit the m1. You look virtually identical except for the ring diameter The slides over the barrel. Sorry for the confusion.
