What makes Italian instrumental music so magical? This was the question asked at the beginning of the video about the 'Italian Night' at the Rheingau Music Festival 2023, where Festival Strings Lucerne played instrumental music by Italian composers from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods under the artistic direction of Daniel Dodds and with oboist Cristina Gómez Godoy. This versatile concert program is a reflection of the ‘Italian Style’, which influenced musicians such as Johann Sebastian Bach as early as the 17th century and continued to have an impact into the 20th century.
In the video, concert excerpts are used to present the typical features of the almost 300-year tradition of Italian instrumental music. Join us on a surprising musical journey of discovery through the works of world-famous composers such as Vivaldi, Verdi and Bellini, and get to know lesser-known composers, such as Andrea Falconieri and Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari.
