Thank you for your reaction. The burning end is his way of (trying to) say goodbye to the burning pain of loosing his parents. He lost them at a very young age. He can't carry that deep pain all is life.

This song is a tribute to his father who died when he was young. One year later his mother died. He started traveling around Europe. As a family they were watching Eurovision and Joost told his father that he once would be on that stage. His father told him there are no limits to reach what ever you want. And now Joost will be on this stage.

This song is a tribute to his father / Parents who passed away. Europa in Dutch means Europe. Pa or Papa means dad. His dad once told him the world has no “Grenzen” which could be translated to both borders (Borders are a man made concept) or limitations (Many people create their own limitations in their own mind). This life lesson inspired him to have keep having an open view on the world and live his life to the fullest without putting limitations on himself. After his parents died he carried a lot of pain with him. No matter where on earth he was (Germany, Italy), whatever food he would eat (Escargots in France, Fish and chips in UK, Paella in Spain), he still carries this pain with him. In the end nobody but himself could deal with this pain and he himself must find peace with his losses. Only going through the grief and finding inner peace would put a end to this suffering. This song tells the story of him as an orphan trying to do exactly that. Him creating this song was a huge part of this process. The line with Stromae / papaoute (which Translates to: Dad where are you), is followed with the words about how he wants his parents to be proud of him. He used to watch Eurovision with his parents and told them one day he would be there performing. Which is what he now did.

The story behind is very sad. He lost both his parents before at age 12 and 13, he promised his dad he would once perform on the EuroVision. Joost is a legendary artist, this song is to me an emotional rollercoaster.

Joost Klein dedicated this song to his father, who died when he was 12 years old due to cancer. His dad taught him that the world has no actual boundaries. His mother died a year later, when he was 13, due to cardiac arrest. Before his dad passed, Joost was already writing all kinds of stuff and promised one day he was going to go to Eurovision. He has gone through so many challenges in life, and it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with them.

Tutti benne Its about how you can never run away from pain/trauma. No matter where you go. (Hence going to the different countries and running away from the netherlands: where the roots of his traumas lie ) as borders are but a fictional concept of the human mind. And crossing them doesnt change a thing about you or the state of the world. And could be viewed as a form of escapism. It doesnt matter whether ur eating escargots in france or fish n chips in england. At the end of the day you carry the pain of loss with you. The burning house represents going full circle. Returning to the place of origin. And let it all burn a.k.a learning to let go of the past. Only then you will be truelly set free and the world and life becomes "borderless". Hope this clarifies the meaning of the song ;)

Hi, the song is inderdaad about his mum and dad. The end is about what his father said: de wereld is voor iedereen. The clip and the song tell the story of Joost how to live on with the loss of his parent ( he was very young). Had hard times and the Journey ends here, so to say. The song is about the Journy and how he had to struggle on to this point. And now, he said himself, he can go on with his life and turn the page. The fire at the end is a symbol for turning his back to all that. Joost and Europapa are extremere popular in the Netherlands. Old, young, peole you woudn't expert. Children make precies about the song in school and so on. He broke by the way all ESC records on KZbin as well as on Spotify. If you really listen to the lyrics, it is clearly an ode to his parents who passed away when he was a child and talking about him running away from his pain without success. Europapa means 'Euro daddy' of course, but also: 'fortunately I don't need a visa to be with you' 'I've lost everything except time' 'I'm in Germany but I'm so alone' (in German) 'I'm in Italy but it still hurts' 'I'm running from myself, crying for help all day long. I even give money to people but there is no one to help me' 'Turn on the radio, hear Stromae with Papaoutai ( which means Daddy, where are you? in French) 'My father once told me: it is a world without borders. I miss you every day is what I secretly whisper. See, dad, I listened to you' So basically: wherever he goes, the sadness goes with him. And then that burning house at the end symbolizes the message to oneself of having to let go of that sadness and old memories in order to move on
