I discovered Lara Fabian with this song more than 25 years ago at a concert. When she sang Perdere l’amore, although I didn’t understand a single word she was singing at the time, the song’s tremendous sadness and grief translated perfectly. I was in tears. Within a few weeks, I was back at her concert just to hear her sing that very song. Lara is a truly exceptional singer/performer, the song a masterpiece and the Italian language the most beautiful, harmonious language to my ear. I think this may very well be my favourite song of all times.

Ciao Mauro! Nice reaction! Lara is half Italian, her mom is from Sicily and Lara lived in Sicily until she was five years old and her dad who is Belgian, took the family back to Belgium. Lara speaks 5 languages fluently: Italian, French, Flemish, English and Spanish. She also speaks German and Russian very well. Lara sings in 12 languages and she is also a song writer, a producer and an actress. She is Dimash's idol since childhood and Dimash sings many of her songs. You should check out her most legendary performances like "Caruso', 'You Are Not From Here', 'Broken Vow' and her 8 minutes long masterpiece singing 'Extrait de Yentl' from her live concert titled 'Concert Pure'. She was born in Belgium, but she went with her mother very young to Sicily. Lara grew up with her🎉 Mother and Grandmother in Italy. She considers Italian her mother tongue. In 2024 Lara sings in 12 languages and speaks in 7 languages.

I saw this concert online back in early 2001 and was mesmerized. I have loved her voice, songs and performances ever since. to me she is the ultimate female singer in the world. Her voice, engagement and ability to convey emotions and stories through her singing is amazing to me. Ti consiglio Caruso, Broken Vow e due diversi live di Je T'Aime, per motivi diversi: guardati prima il live in Paris 2001 e poi il live from the World Music Awards 1999 (a quest'ultimo non reagisce mai nessuno, ma è impressionante). Ciao Mauro elle est à moitié italienne mais italienne à cent pour cent et je vais te dire pourquoi, quand elle en français ou anglais elle tient le micro,mais là en italien en plus avec une chanson qui lui rappelle son enfance en italie (née en belgique mais jusquà ces 6 ans en italie) elle a le micro sur pied car les italiens parle aussi avec les mains avec les gestes aussi et je trouve çà très très jolie (elle ressent trop bien cette chanson) saludos desde francia André

I adore Lara, but to dismiss Celine is stupidity of the highest order. Lara is always compared to Celine because Celine also has great emotion and a superb vocal range. I cannot and choose not, to separate them, albeit Lara's ability to write compositions makes her a more credible artist when critiqued, but until you have heard Celine sing "Oh Holy Night" and "Ave Maria" be wary to dismiss their inevitable comparison. That is why they are the two greatest female singers of all time.

@@brianvincent655 Celine is my favorite among the US Divas, but I cant deny the truth that Lara is a complete package. From stand alone performance to songwriting skills and artistry. But in terms of vocal technique and prowess no one is better. Both have strength and weaknesses. They are both Divas and thus they stand on even ground as far as their vocal prowess is concerned. A song may fit Celines voice better or Laras voice better. A voice is as good as the song that it intends to fit on. Take for example what happened in Eurovision contest in 1988, the song blended well on Celines`s agility skill. thus propelling her to the top.

Lara Fabian speaks 5 languages fluently and composes in all of them since she was a teenager. Her native language is Italian, then French, Flemish, German, then English... Spanish, also some Portuguese and Russian. ;) She lived in Italy her first 6 years of life. Her mother eas italian. When she performs for italian audience she speaks only in Italian.

Actually Lara Fabian has lived in Italy at least 6 months per years until she began to attend school around age of 6 so you can say Italian is her first language equally important to French. Plus she is married with a Sicilian man she met during a long time of vacation in Italy some years ago and she still have a lot of family relatives there.

The reason why those girls in the audience knew the words and were singing along was because Lara included a live version of Perdere L'amore in her third French album "Pure" released in 1996/1997. This performance that you're watching was filmed in 1999/2000 in Canada, where Lara was/is very popular in Montreal, so Lara's fans were already familiar with her version. Excellent! I knew you'd like this one since you like the big, dramatic parts of songs. I think I heard she spent the first 5 years growing up in Italy and Italian was her first language. Not absolutely sure. But she's 100 percent completely fluent in Italian, French, English, Spanish.
