It was sometimes called war of brothers. My great-grandfather was standing in front of firing squad when the leader of the squad noticed him. He was then removed from the line and rest were shot. They were cousins.

That's a version of the march song the Finnish Guards' Battalion sang when they returned to Finland from the Russo-Turkish War from Bulgaria (1877-78). There's two marches which tells about the campaign; first they go off to war and when they return to Finland after it: "Suomen Kaartin lähtölaulu - Finnish Guard march [Sanat] + [Lyrics]" and "Kauan on Kärsitty - Finnish Guard Marching Song (Lyrics)".

The "Varkaus" mentioned here is my mother's hometown; back during the Civil War, it was a small town occupied entirely by Red Finns and surrounded on all sides by White territory. My great-grandfather's youngest brother was one of the Reds living there, and when the Whites showed up, the two sides fought for three days. The Whites won and captured all of the surviving Reds, herded them onto a frozen lake and arbitratrily decided to shoot every tenth man in the line-up. My great-uncle was one of them. This event is called "Huruslahden arpajaiset" or the Lottery of Huruslahti. 90 Reds were executed that day, many of them underage who hadn't even participated in the fighting. Not to mention the Whites even executed children - one of the youngest Red POWs to be shot was a 9-year-old boy. Almost 80 children under age 15 were killed during the war, and three out of four were Red.

I had family to whom fought in both sides. In Ostrobothnia region, a local village called Isojoki (means big river in finnish) that they dump the bodies on a lake. It said its still continue spooking. It had a nickname for that lake: kuolema järvi. It means as "Death lake". Food was also so scared that my grandma told that her relatives had to slaughter their cat. Just not to starve in the bitter winter.

The translation is unfortunately very poor. Many Finnish songs have been translated by overly eager yet not so capable people. "The soul shall remain as the legacy of the land of birth." That's one unmatched masterpiece of a verse! By the way, there is a modrnised version of this song by Elessar. Worth checking out.

I love Finland, because we have defended weakest coutries always first Sweden, when Russia! But 1918 was dark time in Finland's history Whites against reds! Whites wanted own country, but Red ones wanted to stay part of Russia! If I don't remember wrong Red wanted over turn elected goverment so that other side sent some mens to Germany to get military training! But this wasn't first time when we defended Russia 1850's was also against Ottoman - Russia war and that went so well as it could! We got more rights than ordinery Russians, because our civilians with cossacs and some guns in Kokkola dicided say no to British Navy! Two their navy ships sailed our west coast and tried burned all material what needed to build ships!

This is a march for the Jaegers, about 2000 men from all walks of life who "escaped" to Germany in 1915 to receive military training in order to fight to free Finland from Russia. They returned in February 2018 and were thrown straight into the civil war. After that, most returned to their old jobs, but some pursued a military career in the Defense Forces of the independent Finland

After the civil war in 1918 there was a flood of books about it in Finland, but they were all written with a strong tendency, either pro-white or pro-red. Not objective at all. The first book ever, to my knowledge, that at least TRIED to be "historically objective" was "The road to Tampere", released very late, as far as I remember it was in the 1990ies. Why that late? Probably because this subject was - and to a certain extent still is - very sensitive in Finland. Like in Spain about their civil war in the 1930ies. Like in the USA, where books that mention the Confederacy ("the South") as "rebels" are still banned in many south states.
