Just trying to bind off my very first sweater. The explanation is great! I'm doing the 2 setup rows in the round. But I have a question, why are the 2 setup rows necessary? I saw another video without setup rows so I'm curious. Thanks!

Thank you! I love that you repeat the instructions several time with a demo, I will able to keep knitting for a bit using your instruction and go back on the video for refresher while I go. I do wish when you instructed to tug the yarn on the first stitches that you taught to be mindful to maych the tension of our work. You did say to snug the stitch, and that is when I recognized my tight bind off and had to unstitch 8 stitches. Now that I understand more what is going on, I am going to be able to use this video as i do the whole bind off on the body ofy sweater. Yay!

Yes! Best explanation ever! I am a very experienced knitter (almost 60 years!) but every tutorial I've ever encountered just refuses to stick in my brain - bless you - I think this one will stick! (If you haven't already - please include for in-the-round ... i.e. sock tops) ❤❤

I hope it sticks! I’ve always had trouble with this bind off, and making up this little four-step process is what worked for me. I hope it helps you too! And yes the video covers the bind off in the round at the 22:00 minute mark 😉

At the first couple of times the four steps seemed so confusing so I really appreciate that you did till the last stitch as it became clear after the third repeat how this sequence goes. Thank you so much for this tutorial. Your videos always make even super complicated things so easy. I have a question though for the 2x2 ribbing in a round: the first set-up row is the rearranging the stitches like in the flat piece?
@sheepandstitch5 ай бұрын
Hi! Yes for the 2x2 rib in the round the set-up is the same

Thank you so much for this helpful tutorial! Any advice for how to use this method with an extra knit stitch at the beginning/end? My cardigan pattern has an extra knit stitch before going into the 1x1 ribbing.
@sheepandstitch5 ай бұрын
Hmm.. I’m not sure to be honest! If the edges of the rib will be picked up later by a buttonhole band for instance then I would just start the row with a purl stitch so that you still have a 1x1 rib. The edge stitches will end up being absorbed by the buttonband. However if the ribbing is just freestanding, I might try to to knit two stitches together at the beginning and end of the rib to get the 1x1 pattern. Please experiment on a swatch before trying this on your project though. These are just ideas off the top of my head!

Thanks for the amazingly clear video. Sooo clear and helpful. I have a Question about working in the round… Do you still do two rounds of double stockinette in the round? A Video I’ve looked up from @nimbleneedles does double stockinette in the round and has a different round 2 … Based on your working front side and the working back on wrong side video would you recommend I do the following? Double stockinette Round 1 - [slip every purl stitch] knit 1 stitch, bring yarn to front of work, Slip 1 stitch purlwise, repeat Double stockinette Round 2 - [slip every knit stitch] Slip knit stitch purlwise with yarn in the back, bring yarn to the front and purl one stitch, repeat Then start the set up stitches and Italian bindoff?
@sheepandstitchАй бұрын
Hi! If you click on the link for the blog post (in the description) I have a section on working this in the round. Essentially: Round 1: *K1, Slip purl stitch purlwise with yarn in front; repeat from * to end of round Round 2: *Slip knit stitch purlwise with yarn in back, P1; repeat from * to end of round Measure out a length of yarn that is five times the length of the entire bind off edge. Cut the yarn loose and thread with a tapestry needle. Work the same instructions as Italian tubular bind in the video When all the stitches are bound off, insert the tapestry needle into the two “legs” of the first knit stitch. Pull the yarn through to close the gap in the round. Photos for this last step are on the blog post

You know I love your videos and patterns and I totally signed up. Do you ever recommend that knitters learn Continental Knitting to go faster?
@sheepandstitch5 ай бұрын
I have a confession: I don’t know how to knit continental 🙈 I’ve heard it’s faster than English style but I just couldn’t get into it, so I’ve stuck with English. But definitely give it a try. Ergonomically it should be faster and more comfortable than English but knitting style is pretty individual so try it out and see if it works for you! 🤠

@@sheepandstitch I’m barely getting out of beginning intermediate-so I’ll cool my jets-it’s just my ADHD talking. hehe. I might try learning after I’ve done a few more patterns under my belt. It’s been a challenge finding a speed and form to hold things since I’m a tall guy with larger hands, so I’m a bit clunky until I get a groove. Thanks again for everything and resolving my pattern issue.

This looks a lot like kitchener stitch just with one needle. Question: why do you need the two rows of double stockinette? Why not just start sewing?
@sheepandstitch5 ай бұрын
Yes! You’re right. It’s essentially kitchener stitch on a single needle. The two rows of double stockinette stitch give the bind off a bit more stability. It creates a little tube (hence why it’s called a “tubular” bind off). You can try the bind off without the double st st to see what you prefer!

My cardigan pattern says to rib with k2, p1, k1, p1,..., k2. Is there an adaptation of this bind off to deal with this OR should I ignore the pattern and just do k1, p1, k1, ...?
