I actually bought one from RTI. I run cast .269 bullets with Trail Boss powder. Obviously you need to follow reloading recommendations but i get 1450 fps with a 90% load that has virtually no recoil. It does have a perfect barrel though.
@AjackLee4 Жыл бұрын
Only 1450FPS? Is that downloaded vs a standard mil loading?
@AjackLee4 Жыл бұрын
Also I've read online that these were supposedly actually a .264 bore and that's part of the cause with modern issues.

@@danm7298 they fired 6.5 Carcano with decreased powder loads and if I remember correctly, 3 of them still ended up breaking due to the rifles not being able to withstand the pressure.

a lot of dealers are just ignorant, and do not want to take any chances, so the easy thing to do is if the gun takes a cartridge make the people fill out the paperwork. I have found over the years a lot of people selling guns know nothing about what they are selling, and not very much about the laws about selling guns, they just want your money.
@danv67893 жыл бұрын
I have one of these that I've run hundreds of commercial rounds through. I use the PPU ammo since the Hornady has a slightly larger diameter. Great firing gun with no issues. You have to look hard to see the conversion as it was very well done. The action on mine is smooth as butter and cycles very smoothly. I've read all over the internet that these guns are unsafe and shouldn't be fired. I think a lot of this is exactly what the author of the video states and is just old rumors and word of mouth. Probably by people who have never owned one or those who are sour graping those of us that do. If you are unsure then have it checked. I have found these to be solid, well built, old guns.

I got one off a wall the bolt was welded shut. I studied the internet and knew why so lucky it was welded where I could cut it open to work the bolt. Barrel is good. GB has specific vetterli ammo for sale 1750 fps 125 grain sp…. I’d shoot em and reload em plumb full of BP for Smokey fun. Really cool gun.

I just bought one in really good condition for $100. I already have a ton of 6.5 carcano and enbloc's for my M1891, but all I keep hearing is, don't fire it with the full power PPU.
@WastelandArmorer Жыл бұрын
I’ve shot PPU in mine. I had stiff extraction so I quit shooting it. Norma has worked fine. Have the gun checked by a gunsmith and if it is solid you could try PPU, just be super observant for pressure signs. These guns can take the pressure, but just barely, so there isn’t much margin of safety to account for wear.

@jefferyboring4410 Жыл бұрын
I’ve seen factory vetterli loads on GB 125 grain at 1750 fps personally I’d just compress a blackpowder load as that was the 1887 original design. It’s supposed to be a rimless 25-35 American design or European 6.5-52R but the carcano is rimless so apparently 35 grains of blackpowder is the best load so try that and work up smokeless to that fps I’d assume it to be 1750 but that’s a lot of assumptions
@yuibot59984 жыл бұрын
Man, people dumping half the powder out of commercial ammo are crazy. Cutting a slow burning powder by half could lead to some bad shit. S.E.E. for one. BOOM.
@jefferyboring4410 Жыл бұрын
Ammunition companies have tried to replicate a low powder (detonation) unsuccessfully. I think it’s a old myth. I’ve shot thousands of gallery or half loads. Ppl accidentally used pistol powder and made up stories is my guess. Used the wrong jug!

Great info on these clearing up stuff I believed. What book did you get that info from? Mine someone drilled holes on the stock for wall mounts paid under 200 including shipping years ago. Still has most of the bluing not sure if original and I shot 4 rounds of PPU. Only issue is the bolt face has a cut that puts a ring on the back of the cartridge which I haven't fixed yet. The ones Royal Tiger is selling are a rip off.
