When two choices for a verb are given (avere malinconia and essere malinconici) how do you know which verb to use when? Also, some words, like annoiati, have all 4 adjective endings (o,a,i,e) while others have only 2 (e,i)-- other than memorizing, is there any way to know or anticipate which ones have the 4 endings and which ones have 2? Thanks.

There are two categories of adjectives: 1) Ending in -o (masculine singular) or in -a (feminine singular); for these adjectives you have also two different plural forms, one for masculine (-i) and one for feminine (-e). Ex: il gelato buono (M. Sing.) - la torta buona (F. Sing.) - i gelati buoni (M. Pl.) - le torte buone (F. Pl.) 2) Ending in -e (both for feminine and masculine in the singular form); these adjectives have just one plural form (-i). Ex: l'uomo gentile (M. Sing.) - la donna gentile (F. Sing.) - gli uomini gentili (M. Pl.) - le donne gentili (F. Pl.) And, about your question regarding the choice between two different verbs, usually it depends on the context or on the habit.

so interesting to me how the word for kindness sounds like "timidity" which has a negative connotation, and "la rabbia" the word for anger, making me wonder if "rabies" comes from that. Or is it vice versa? :)

I'm thinking of vocabulary exercises within a story in which the English Pdfs show wrong translations of several words.The student must find and correct the errors. Ciao, il video e' fatto bene, peccato che i sottotitoli inglesi siano un po' inappropriati. Volevo farlo vedere a degli alunni che seguono il mio corso extracurricolare di italiano qui in Croazia, ma non posso perche' a un certo punto quando tu dici "un casino di..." i sottotitoli mostrano " a shitload of...." che e' un'espressione molto volgare :/ peccato.
