Piacere in Italian IS placer in Spanish. It's all in how the languages evolved from Latin. In Italian. In many cases the Latin L transformed in to "ia". So placer became piacer-e (as Italian must end in a vowel). Same with the word for plate. Plato vs piatto. Spanish also have this were the O transformed into an ue in many cases Like in the number 9 Latin nove in Italian is still nove. In Spanish is nueve. If you have just a little education, you can realize these things. And it becomes easy to learn one of them and understand the other.

In Portuguese we swapped the "l" for an "r" (prazer, prato) but even so I think most spanish and italian speakers would understand those words. But the number 9 is still "nove". 🙂

Italian here. Please note that a number of Italian (and Spanish, I suppose) native speakers are unable, for anatomical reasons, to pronounce a fully trilled "r" sound, and they substitute it with a so-called "French r" sound, in phonetics called a "rhotacism". This phenomenon (in Italian it is called "r (erre) moscia") doesn't affect at all the comprehension or communicating practices; everybody will 100% understand you: so if you don't have a trilled "r" you can still perfectly talk and be understood in Italian. Good video, as usual. Thank you. Byes.

Usually Asians have problems with the sound of the letter r but you did very well with it, for some people master Spanish and Italian may seem very simple but accents are very important, and some people think they have learned the language well but mispronounce many words instead. For the rest, as the girls said, once you have learned one of the two languages you have great foundation to learn the other, there are many words in common, you just have to watch out for the few words that have a complete different meanings and learn them well

Stressed syllables don't always have ortographical accents (tilde) in Spanish. We have 3 simple rules, so we don't need to write accents all the time. In fact we write very few: 1. If the word is stressed in the last syllable, you write a tilde when ends in n, s or vowel. 2. If the word is stressed in the last but one (penultimate) syllable, you write a tilde when it does *NOT* end in n, s or vowel. 3. And the words stressed the last but two (antepenultimate) or before, always have a written tilde.

Yeah, Italian pronunciation is definitely harder than Spanish. Italian has 7 vowel sounds (A, open E, closed E, I, open O, closed O, U) while Spanish has 5 (A, E, I, O, U), which all exist in Italian. Italian also uses far more double consonants too. Spanish only has RR as a true double consonant (LL is really an unrelated consonant sound to L, and CC does not even form in the same syllable, like the word diccionario). Italian has BB, CC, DD, FF, GG, LL, MM, NN, PP, RR, SS, TT, VV, ZZ. This concept of doubling consonant sounds to produce a stronger consonant sound actually exists in Korean though, such as ㄱ,ㅋ,ㄲ.

Letting aside regionalisms, that is BS. They are both similar in both things. In terms of speed and clarity al romance languages are pretty much identical, no matter how it might sound to an untrained ear. And then of course, regions do matter. Some Spaniards are slow and clear and some are slow and clear. Same as in Italy. This kind of generalization is usually nonsense. I don't know how you people do it, but "As an Italian..." or "As a Spaniard..." has the same ring that "I am not a racist, but..." has. Every time somebody starts a phrase claiming they are an expert or a professional on whatever they are talking about on the internet, they follow that with the most ignorant BS you can imagine. As an Italo-brazilian I really love that the Italian language and also our neighbor's language (Spanish) are getting a lot of recognition by foreigners. Italian might seems simple but in reality the grammar and pronunciation are more difficult than English. However, Brazilians and Spanish can find our language easy to learn, thanks to similarities, and it's the same in the other way around (us trying to learn Spanish and Portuguese BR). Like when English natives try to learn German; a lot of words are alike (wasser/water, mutter/mother, kind/kid, bröt/bread, natürlich/naturally, and so on...), so Italian, Spanish and Portuguese BR are similar (hijo/figlio/filho, naranja/arancia/laranja, agua/acqua/áqua, blanco/bianco/branco, etc....). I started learning German and Korean, and I don't find them so difficult as a lot of people say. German is similar to English, so after learning it (English) it's almost natural to get along with German too, and Korean is less difficult than Italian, so luckily it's funny to learn it ^^.

There are 2 types of pronunciations for the Spanish "R": "R strong": we pronounce it at the beginning of the words, when you see two "RR" in the middle of the word and after the letters "n, s, l": Raro, FeRRocaRRil, RonRonear... "R"soft": at the middle or final of the word, except except if it follows the letters "n, s, l": entendeR, caRtón, cocodRilo...

@@jeidelbergin im saying if he is really interested in italy, like its culture and traditions and places and history and so on then it would be useful for him. Plus he may have a thing for the italian language as such. That would be a personal preference then. Various reasons. If he will be an expat in italy one day then sure it would be very useful in everyday situations there

I am not agree with say french and italian are closer..If it is true about grammar but for spanish is much easier Spanish than french for the pronuntation. I am Spanish and I have learned Italian just listening Italian people talking(I leave in Fuerteventura in Canary Canary islands and the north where I leave is full of italians) and to learn french I have to study because is much harder for spanish.

Literally they ARE closer. Italian is the language that's the closest to latin, so both french and spanish are more similar to italian than they are between themselves as they also come from latin.

@@lucajacovig8159 It is not question of opinion..that it is true!! Italian and french grammar are closer but the prononciation nothing about the Spanish!! About prononciation is closer to portuguese!! By the way..I am Spanish that speaks gallego (almost like portuguese)and I also speak and understand really good portuguese, italian and french!! And also english and a los of german.
